I came from another forum but decided to make my own, and on my old forum you used to be able to post a picture (with size limitations) for a sig. I've tried a couple methods but they all seem to just post the link to the picture.

Is there any way around it, or has this feature not been added to the Lefora system?

hey elsium, thanks for the question, we don't allow for images in the sig because we want to encourage using that image in your avatar. If a member rolls over your avatar they'll see a bigger picture and they can click through to see you full profile.

We may add more sig options in the future, but since the avatar is displayed on so many parts of the site (recent posters, top posters, the headlines page, etc.) we want that to be the place where you include a picture.

I have had a few people from our site ask me about this feature for a while. I personally can't stand pictures in signatures. However I have still been wondering about this for a while.

Thanks for all the info Chief. (yes yes, I know this is over three months old...)

hi, got a new forum in here, love it. But these sigs thing is not that good i think, may derail some people not to use the forum.

There is no way this policy is going to change? and have an option either u want text-only or fully customizable? like ever? =P

thanks.

I'm not gonna say it'll never change, but we're trying to encourage ppl to use the avatars more for photos and images, as we display those all over the site.

At lefora, we try to minimize the amount of options presented to admins as we don't want to create an admin panel that is overwhelming with options and switches. So sometimes that does mean making a compromise, but we think the benefits of super easy forum creation and even simpler administration provide enough benefit to keep options at a 'minimal'

i dont see how applying pics to signatures makes the work of admins harder. Maybe cuz they ahve to mod what the user posts but, they still have to mod anyway so... i dunno :D

You asked if the admin could choose for it to be text only or customizable, so even though that's just one option, there's tons of little options like that they we try to keep to a minimum.

That said, we listen closely to feedback and drive most of our development off of it. So like I mentioned above, it's not out of the question, but we're trying to encourage using the 'avatar' space for images, and we'll see how that pans out over the next few weeks/months. For instance, currently the images don't support animated gifs, but a number of people have asked for it and we're adding support for it now.

If you want to keep creation simple and easy, you could always add an extra tab to the admin page, like an "advanced options". maybe...
Because i think that both limiting admins, as well as making creating too complicated may deter people from using lefora, but an advanced options could satisfy both.

I think you should allow Signature Images... Thats one of the most fun parts of being on a forum. I just made my new signature picture and am very disappointed I can't use it. I might make a forum somewhere else then... :\

I like having them to, and seeing others. It individualizes your account and helps to identify on line buds in a forum. it is also a cool way to let ppl express themselves. But if you want a sig so bad just use the "embed pictures" button on the top left of the post box every time you make a post. I know, kind of a hassle.

Since we use avatars in so many areas of the site (more than other forum software, we encourage use of the avatar for an image instead of your sig, and you can change it as often as you like.) When you upload an avatar or link to one on the web, we save 3 different sizes, small, medium, and large to use through the site. This allows us to show a representative image about you on the headlines page, in the forum, on your profile, etc.

ok, so while i dont agree with denying images in sigs, thats not what actually brought me to this thread. Why are we not allowed to have multiple lines in a sig unless we use an abundance of characters? I personally like to say more then on e stupid little thing in my sig, but when i add try to add lines, it runs them together. So far this forum setup is FAR from user friendly.

As to make the forums easier to read, and more search friendly to google, we've opted to keep the sigs limited, so as not to have massive amounts of repeated text down a thread. There are people that put full paragraphs in a sig, and when replying multiple times within a forum, makes it very difficult to read, as the sig can be longer then the post itself, and you'll see it repeated down the page many times, making the thread longer, load slower, and confusing to google about what is the true content and keywords on the page.

We'll be doing more about display personal info for each member, such as a hover over, so that if you roll over their username or avatar, you can see a more complete profile which would include more text, a larger photo, posting history, date joined, etc.

On Lefora, we're constantly balancing aesthetic and usability alongside a full feature set. Nothing on our product is locked down in stone, and we're constantly improving the site (and at times, changing our previous tenants). Sometimes we'll sacrifice options presented to admins in the admin panel, in order to make it easier to use and less overwhelming.

This is very disappointing. Signatures shows personalities. Sure there is the avatar, but it is very limited. The space is too constrained.

I had the assumption that you can use image as signatures in Lefora forums but I was wrong. I wasted all my time in the creation of our forum. Too bad I even advertised it.

Since you *insisted* that there'll be no support for image signatures (or "It will be added in the indefinite future), we're going to move out of Lefora ASAP.

Bad flexibility == Bad PR == Bad points.

I don't have the slightest idea why on earth are you on top 10 for a Google search.

I'm not going to recommend Lefora to anyone.

Just to get it out of the way, I am not a Lefora Support person. But your conclusion seems overly harsh swithart. There are many features that Lefora employs that are quite beyond what you will find elsewhere. I also have found that if you approach the people that run this endeavor with politeness and a willingness to try things a bit different, they will bend over backwords in their help. They will take fair criticism for what it is worth.

Your first post is not a good start on pushing for your view point or for that matter for anyone else that may have wanted the same feature to be available. I think you need to step back and decide exactly what you want and research what you might get before creating a "Free" Forum.

Good fortune.

First, this is swithart with my primary (and last Lefora account).

Oh really? You seems to talk a lot for a non-support person. OK, I get it, you were paid to talk.

This issue has been raised a long time ago. What month is it now? It's NOVEMBER! People before me have asked very nicely about that feature. What happened? None. The so-called "admin" did not make efforts to include that feature.

Who cares about the first post? It doesn't really matter. The issue here is not me. The issue here is what we users want. WTF are you talking about this "Free" business? Don't run a free forum if you can't provide what the users want. Ah so the image signature support is a paid-for feature? Rrrrright! Are we still in the 80s? Oh right, Lefora is for Gopher (or even BBS).

Don't digress. Don't attack me for trying to bring out you're point. Lefora is not going to invite more users with this attitude.

I've wasted too much time just to make these posts.

Yeah I rushed in and didn't think how unflexible Lefora is so I need to step back and eliminate Lefora from my next set of choices. Yes, it was a big mistake making an account here.

Good fortune? No, it's BAD fortune.
