You can promote your forum on blog search engines, such as Technorati.com via your forum's RSS feeds.  Here on Lefora, we'll ping all the blog search engines automatically so that your feeds are indexed in real-time (some blog sites do this as well.)  However, it's a good idea to 'Claim' your forum on technorati as to give your forum moreauthority to increase views from searches.

Note:  These instructions can be helpful even if you're running your own blog on another service such as blogger or wordpress.

Claiming your forum is simple, just follow these steps:
  • First, create an account on http://technorati.com
  • Start the Claim a Blog process (we treat forums just like blogs here at lefora.) http://technorati.com/account/blogs/
    1. Enter your forum URL into the text entry field, in this case: http://blog.lefora.com.  Replace 'blog' with the name of your forum.  Click 'Begin Claim'
    2. Click 'Use Post Claim'.
    3. Copy the provided code to your clipboard, something like <a href="http://technorati.com/claim....
    4. Don't hit 'Release the Spiders' just yet!
  • Return to your forum, we're gonna add a widget with that technorati code (we'll take it down after we're done.)
    1. Click 'Forum Admin' on your top menu bar at the very top of your forum page
    2. Click 'Widgets'
    3. Add a 'Custom HTML' widget to the top of your sidebar.
    4. Edit the Widget properties. For the title, name it 'Temporary Technorati Code', for the content, paste in your technorati code you copied above (<a href="http://technorati.com/claim....)
    5. Save your changes and return to your forum by clicking 'View Forum' on your top menu bar.
    6. You should now see your new widget on your sidebar, with the phrase: "Technorati Profile"
  • Return back to technorati to complete the process
    1. Click 'Release the Spiders' and wait a few seconds.
    2. Enter a description for your forum (you may want to copy the description you've already created for your forum.)
    3. Add tags (keywords) that you would like associated with your forum (optional.)
    4. Click 'Save Your Blog'
  • Congratulations! You've successfully have claimed your forum on technorati
    1. Note, if you have any issues with technorati, be sure to check out their support pages.
  • Lastly, remove the temporary widget off your forum.
    1. Return to 'Forum Admin' -> Widgets
    2. Remove the HTML widget you just created.
    3. Return to your forum.

Much looking forward to hear what they say, Chief!
I'm not able to promote my forum on technorati as per your instructions and wonder whether other users have found the same?

When I 'release the spiders' after following the above instruction, it comes up with the message:

Sorry, we could't connect to your blog host. Please try again later. Need a hand? Visit the FAQ.

Is there something that I am doing wrong?

wait a few days, then try searching technorati for your forum, if it's not there, try the process again, if that doesn't work, please let us know and also send technorati an email asking if they could elaborate on the issue more.

Hi, Guyz !  I am trying topromote on technorati, but it will not let me claim a blog.
I've used horror-hill.lefora.com  and www.horror-hill.net  It just comes up error code 603
with account name  and  blog url below it.  I've tried to find support there, but under claiming it just gives you a choice of three failure buttons and they just take you to a forum.
Any help would be appreciated.  Zombie1

Hi Zombie, technorati may have changed their policies about working with forums and they may only be accepting blogs now.  This is an older thread, so I'm going to lock it as it may not be relevant any more.

The #1 distribution method for getting new members to find your forum is to have google actively crawl and index your site.  Google will do this if it see's a lot of original content, posting that is a paragraph or two long, happening a few times a day - from one or many members (it seems like you're doing a good job of this now.)
