A number of forums have been asking us for permission controls. From requiring membership, to enabling co-admins and moderators.
Yesterday night, we release new controls in your Forum Admin Panel's "Forum Settings" page. Admins now have the ability to:
- Require Membership in order to post (though we recommend leaving your forum open)
- Ability to add co-admins that have full acess to the forum
- Ability to add moderators that don't have access to the Forum Admin Panel, but can moderate posts by flagging them as spam, moving them to other categories, and making posts sticky.
Posting Options - Membership Required
If you choose, you can require that people who post to your forum must sign up as a member. However, we belive information and communcation should be open and easy to participate in. So we recommend to leave your forum open. We understand concerns about spam and trolls, but we've built out lots of intelligent tools to prevent that. We automatically detect spam across all forums and put it into your 'spam box', just like gmail and hotmail. In the cases where we don't catch spam, we allow admins and moderators to flag it. As for trolls, we allow the community to moderate with the thumb up/down buttons. If posters get enough thumbdowns, they will be collapsed by default.
Forum Moderators & Admins
You can now add co-admins and moderators to your fourm. Just start typing a username in the field and we'll populate a list of members in your forum that begin with the letters you're typing. Click 'Add', then choose if you want them to be a Moderator or an Admin.
Moderators can:
- Delete posts
- Mark posts as SPAM
- Change the category of a thread
- Make posts sticky (and remove sticky)
