I see that you keep track of posts since I last read. Is it possible for me to set up a list of fora and threads and subscribe to them -- so I can quickly go from the first new post in the first thread I subscribe to in the first forum on my list?

hi hrheingold, i'm not sure if i follow the question exactly. Are you asking about subscribing to topics in mulitple forums? And by 'subscribe', do you mean RSS or just a single page to view them all?

Try Caucus, Well-Engaged, or Web-Crossing. This is not new -- the problem was solved by these three ten years ago. I think phpbb also affords subscriptions, although I haven't played with it.

I want a list. I want to have complete control of what goes on the list. I want complete control of the ordering of the list. I want to subscribe to some fora and not others, some threads within those fora and not others. I want to see at a glance when I log in which fora and which threads have new posts. I want to either jump to the new posts in a specific forum/thread, or to simply click on a link that shows me the next new post in the next thread from the next forum on my list.

I'm sorry. I guess t his should be in Feature Requests. Is there a way to move posts from one thread to another?

Thanks hrheingold, while we don't have that exact list you're looking for at the moment, we do have lots of other features that compose what you're looking for.

If you want to 'track' a topic across multiple forums, you can click 'track' at the top of the topic.  This will put it on your dashboard, which at the moment we're still adding features to, but we're not promoting.  However, you can get to your dashboard by clicking 'Edit Your Profile', then clicking the dashboard tab.  This will have a listing of all topics you're tracking across all forums you are a member of.

Another feature we have, that we haven't seen anywhere else, is the representation of the state of a topic since your last viist.  If you click the 'Forum' tab, then click 'All categorires', you'll see a list of all topics in that forum, there are a few different color codes here:
 * Red: You posted in the topic and there have been new replies to the topic since your last visit
 * Green: New topic since your last visit.
 * Gray: A topic that existed before, but you choose not to visit, that has new replies
 * Faded Gray: A topic that existed before, that you choose not to visit, that doesn't have new replies.

We'll continue to improve this color coding system, but it provides a lot of information not seen on other forums.

If you have any more thoughts on this, please send me an email at 'chief -at- lefora.com'

Thank you. Will try the "track" feature. Suggest you unbury the Dashboard link.

HI !

I am not sure if my question is relevent to this topic, but I will ask anyway.

My problem is that I have created a forum, but I would like that mails are automatically sent out to each member when someone posts or changes something in the forum by default. He can unsuscribe topics which are of no interest to him, if he desires.

How can I achieve this ?

Hi

Another question. I have joined a forum called Meerut4us. However, this "track" thing does not seem to appear when I open a topic.

Regards

The original posts in this topic are really quite out of date, and the information doesn't really apply anymore.

Anyway, we don't have support for what you describe exactly, we cant really auto opt in people for that kind of bulk email for the risk of being classed as spam, but you can achieve similar things with rss.

The rss feed for the recent posts page http://meerut4us.lefora.com/forum/post/ will give you an update on every single post. Or similarly from a category page will give evey post in the category, and from a topic page every post in that topic.

You can also get emails per topic, from the 'track topic' section to the right of the topic title, and we may expan the email option to the other sections soon.

Hope this helps.

And you can convert RSS feeds into daily emails using a free google service called feedburner.com.

Hi chief

The catch is when i start a new topic, no one gets to know about it. I also use a google blog. The good part there is that the complete message goes into their email. However, to reply, he comes back to the forum, and that is excellent for us. What we want here, atleast he gets a message saying that there is a post, or a new topic, etc etc.

thanks gags70 for that, we will be adding an auto-generated newsletter that will cover all changes to a forum.

Can you tell me where this newsletter feature stands now?  This is an issue for me, since some of my potential members only want emails to come to them, they don't want to have to open a web page.

hey Caryl, lefora works best when user's come to the website, we probably won't have features that allow members to access lefora solely out of email for sometime - so you may want to look into something like yahoo groups if that's the functionality your members want - as we focus our feature offering for members who visit the lefora website.

i'm closing this topic because it's gotten off topic from the original post.
