I guess this might be a feature for a premium version. We already run a website and email forums with several thousand registered users. Your system looks like it'd work well for us, but we'd need to use our existing member database without having to re-register everyone.
A feature that would allow us to use OpenID authentication or let your system call our authentication tool for existing users would be ace.

Thanks Sam, we'll be working on these suggestions in the future (possibly openID or another authentication service and an API for passing member data.)
In the meantime, we have imported existing memberships onto lefora. So if you have a set of usernames, emails, and md5 hashed passwords, we can import that for you, just send me an email at 'chief -at- lefora.com'
I second that request. I run my own website, and lefora looks like a great forum to use, but it would be great if users only had to log in to the website and they were then automatically logged into the forum. Otherwise they'll have to log in twice.
thanks for the feedback, we're working on an authentication system that will plugin with your existing system, we're working on this as bigger than just 'openid', because everybody we've talked to, doesn't have the majority of their members using openid, so we're building something that can integrate into your site, whether you are using openid or not.
In the past 5 months the space is shifting to OpenID. The one piece that is still missing is client sites. Now, many sites are OpenID providers, even facebook has joined the OpenID Foundation’s board as a sustaining corporate member.
With that said, has work begun on this project?
We have an API for authentication and have a number of forums already using it. Our API allows the your website to authenticate logins (most of the forums using it, are not using openid implementations, but their own login systems)
