Some members complained that their Private Messages stay stuck in their outbox, and when I opened my Outbox, I found the same! Why is that? Some messages get sent immediately, and others just sit in the Outbox. From there you do not get the opportunity again to send the message.

a message in your 'outbox' means the receiving party never opened it. when it's opened it will be moved to your 'sent' box.

I have sent messages that do not appear in either the sent box or the outbox. Do I need to do something to set up email? The first email was an invitation the person did not receive. Then I resent. did not see either in their email boxes.

I'm a little unsure as to what exactly you are doing.
The messages is not for sending email, which it sounds like is what you are using it for. The 'to' field in messages is for a lefora username - it is for sending private messages to other users on a forum, and can only be read from the messages section of lefora.
If you want to invite someone via email, use the 'Send invites' link at the top left of the page.
If you are not trying to send to email please let us know, as in that case it may be a bug.

I sent invites to a group of people. No one received the invitation via email. Before I knew no one in the group got the message, I tried to resend to only one member of the group.
So, at this point, no emails received via invites.
