There's a widget called custom html.
I've always used the new hardware that's out, a cellulose tube filled with carbon crystals working over a flexible cellulose base

Just to clarify, you can only add custom html to the sidebar with the widget as mentioned above.
You cannot add or modify html anywhere else.
You can change some visual things via css which can affect all and any of your forum via the css pannel in the admin themes section.
