Suggestion: Posting help for members

#0, by eriji, 06 September 2008 11:57 PM
A little while ago I was making a post on a Lefora forum, and I wanted to put a link in with alternate text.

Because I was using a different browser and I didn't have my tools available, I couldn't remember the syntax to make a {URL} post.

I tried a few different ways, then tried searching the Lefora Support Forum. I searched and searched for 13 minutes (time was running out to edit the post) and then gave up. I came back afterwards and searched some more, but never found any help on posting.

The hover help in a post box says you can "Post embed code" but that's all. It doesn't say "we support all the postilla v7.9.8.2.3.488 tags format" or something like that to reference and search on.

A simple posting help would help the new Lefora user.

It was actually a link back to Lefora that I was trying to type. I did finally get it to work, obviously, but I'll explain in the following reply (running out of time to edit.)

HTML doesn't work, BBCode doesn't work, praying doesn't work . . . {shrugs}

So HELP for forum members with HELP for POSTS would be what I'm asking.

cheers!

Ok, I finally found out the way to do it, AND found the mysterious "visual" editor that the help bubble mentioned.

I saw in the help bubble the reference to "visual editor"

If you prefer a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, select 'Visual Editor' and we'll remember your preference.

but I searched all over and could not find anything that said "visual".

I looked at the link at the top of the posting box, which says: "switch to standard editor (no uploads)" and I said "nope, not visual editor" and bypassed it.

A little change in terms might help here, or more exactly, LESS change in terms, would be the answer.

It also said it would remember my choice and it didn't for the subsequent post (but I guess that belongs in the "bug" category.

Just my four cents worth.

The name of the visual editor got changed some time ago, but clearly that help bubble got forgotten, so thanks for poiting that out.

Also we do support basic bbcode (u,b,i,url, img), though it appears a spanner got in the works. I have since removed the spanner and expect the fix to be applied to your forums sometime tommorow(monday).

Also in responce to:

but I'll explain in the following reply (running out of time to edit.)

once you start editing you have as much time as you like to make your edit, it's just you must start within those first 15 mins.

it's better than bad, it's good

You missed the quote. But it doesn't matter, cos I got rid of my forum and went somewhere's else. I thought that would also deactivate my account here but I guess not. Manual, then.
