so you need to set up a CNAME on ukreg.com, they don't allow me to see their help files without logging in.

https://www.ukreg.com/support/

So you'll have to search their support site or send them an email and ask them how to create a 'CNAME record' for your domain.

mbians, just send me an email at 'cheif -at- lefora.com' to find out adding your own ads.  And it's best to post questions like this in relevant topics (this one is about cnames), there's even more info about this in the Lefora FAQ

Question:

I was able to change the CNAME record as in steps 1A and 1B, but I cannot forward brownsnation.net to www.brownsnation.net.  Right now both brownsnation.net and www.brownsnation.net are forwarding to brownsnation.lefora.com.  Is this not right?

I'm hosted at Yahoo! by the way.

browsnation.net should point to www.brownsnation.com, what domain provider are you using as I may be able to provide more info on how to do this.

Also, I noticed that you're using 'stealth url forwarding', you should use normal url forwarding so it doesn't screw with the page address on the website.

I was just asked by somebody on godaddy.com why www.example.com would work for their forum, but not example.com.

The answer is because domain forwarding needs to be setup to forward the root domain (with no 'www') to the www subdomain.

http://help.godaddy.com/article/422

You want to choose 301 Permanent forwarding.  Make sure you do NOT choose stealth forwarding.

example.com FORWARDS TO www.example.com

Seeking someone experienced with GoDaddy:

www.TotallyNotTrue.com goes to the correct lefora site.  TotallyNotTrue.com (same address without the 'www') does not -- it goes to a parked GoDaddy page.

The "Forwarding" option in the GoDaddy Domain Manager is set to http://www.totallynottrue.com and the Nameservers are set to "Parked nameservers (Park my domains here)".

Is that correct?

Thanks!

totallynottrue.com is working for me (without www), is it fine for you now?

For those using 123 Reg - hope this helps.

To point your domain name as a CNAME record, please look at the following guide:

1) You will need to login to the account using the "login to your control panel" button. This is located on the top right hand side of the page.

2) You should now be at a new page. Using the scroll bar on the right hand side of your web browser, you should now be presented with the blue section and a dropdown box that contains a domain name. Next to this dropdown box is a button that says "modify domain".

* Select the domain you wish to modify from the dropdown box
* Click the "modify domain" button.

3) You should now be at a new page. Select the option you require. The options you will be faced with are as follows:

*   Manage My Blog
*   Access My Instantsite Account
*   Web Forwarding
*   E-mail Forwarding
*   Manage DNS
*   Change Nameservers
*   Change IPS Tag
*   Modify Contact Details
*   WHOIS Opt out
*   Transfer Domain to another 123reg User
*   Display or Print an Invoice

Click on Manage DNS.

Set up your DNS records as follows:

A, CNAME and TXT records

Name      Type      Content

forum      CNAME    arguseurope.lefora.com
www      CNAME    arguseurope.lefora.com

Please click onto update DNS and allow 24-48 hours for propagation.

Chief,

Re. your email, www.conniefisherforum.co.uk is currently pointing to the 123 Reg holding page. I think we are having issues with either DNS settings or web forwarding.

Hosted by 123 Reg, these are the current settings:

Name    Type    Content

@            A            194........
@          CNAME    conniefisher.lefora.com
www    CNAME     conniefisher.lefora.com
www        A            194........

Web forwarding: No - web forwarding

5 web forwarding options:

1) No web -forwarding
2) Framed web forwarding to a single page
3) Non - framed web forwarding to a single page
4) Framed web forwarding
5) Non framed web forwarding

Please advise

Many thanks

Alexdavina

you have a conflict, you must delete the www A record, so the cname works correctly.  post here when that's done and we'll flip the forum to the custom domain over here.

alex, there still seems to be an issue, as if there are other records in conflict.  Other than the cname record, can you delete any other NS or A records that deal with lefora.com.  After you do this, please post a screenshot of your settings here.
