I'm having problems setting up a CNAME record for my custom domain.

zombie1, here's what you need:

Assuming you want to set up www.horror-hill.net

CNAME NAME: www
CNAME CONTENT: horror-hill.lefora.com

You will also need to set up a URL forwarder on your ROOT domain (non www) with the root pointing to www.horror-hill.net (i sent you all this info in my original email to you).  It's also at the top of this topic - http://support.lefora.com/2008/09/29/im-having-problems-setting-up-a-cname-record-for-m/page1/#post1217787

i have michianaracin.lefora.com as forum i put in CNAME michianaracin.lefora.com and my domain is michianaracin.net and when godaddy updates it says michianaracin.lefora.com cannot be found on the lefora.com home page. this is ticking me off really bad and this is on lafora part big time

Now it has a DNS problem and whole domain is shut down, 

after you make the CNAME change on your side, and send us an email, it may take 1-2 business days to see the domain working with the new custom domain name.  During that 'time period', you may see 'Forum cannot be found' with the new custom domain.

Hi, I'm new to all this and not sure of the next step.
As of yesterday, I've had DNS enabled on my domain name but now I'm not sure what I need to request to get my domain name and my forum up and running.

My current forum name is howdoilook.lefora.com which I need to changed to www.howdoilook.com.au.

My domain name provider is Melbourne IT.

I am so sorry to bother you again. I've been sent a DOMAIN NAME PASSWORD by my provider. Am I on the right track here? And what do I do with it?

i don't believe you want a domain name password, you must create a Domain Name CNAME Record, normally this is quite simple on sites like godaddy.com and yahoo.com, i'm not sure about the name provider you are using, you will have to ask them to create a cname record with the info I typed above.

Thanks again Chief. I got an email from them yesterday afternoon saying they were having tech difficulties and to call them back again today. The CNAME record is a brand new service they are providing, which I was unaware of when I signed up. This company are well established here in Melbourne and I wrongly assumed that they would be able to fulfil my requirements.

Maybe tht is right do you remote connect with pro users i use teamviewer if tht helps but i can install anything that is required i just dont want to mess my domain and forum up many thanks

eggar4ever, that is incorrect, it seems you have the host/points to values backwards, here's info on how to set it up in godaddy.

If you are trying to set up www.example.com or forum.example.com then enter either 'www' or 'forum' for the Alias Name.  For the 'Points To' that should be something like yourforum.lefora.com (no www or http).

NOTE: If you are setting up a domain like www.example.com, then you need to make sure example.com (without the www) works correctly.  In order to do this, you will need to set up domain forwarding from example.com (no www) to www.example.com

mmmm, that info was cut short, please respond to the last lefora email you received and we'll make the change.  Remember to include your new domain and your lefora address.
