We've added a new feature to the Lefora Homepage, a directory - this feature has been requested many times on support. Even before we had a directory, we've built lefora so that your forums come up in search engines when people search for keywords in your forum. Now, for new admins starting a forum, they can browse the directory linked from the home page. Or for members looking for other forums, they can find them in the directory.

http://www.lefora.com/directory/

REMEMBER to assign a category to your forum. There are thousands of Lefora forums that are not assigned to a category (this makes it harder for people to browse to your site or for Google to associate your forum with keywords.) Make sure to go into your Forum Admin Panel and under the 'Settings' tab, select a category that is most relevant to your forum. Then, underneath that, make sure to add a few keywords about your forum, separated by commas. For instance, for the support forum, I might add the keywords 'support, help, forums, lefora, questions, answers'

If you're forum is set to PRIVATE, it will NOT be listed in our category and will NOT be indexed by search engines.

First off, this is spectacular, especially since I noticed so few people using the Promote Your Forum space :) If we are allowed to make suggestions, though, I would really like to be able to sort in the reverse order (fewest to greatest members). Otherwise, the big sites will keep getting bigger since they are on the front page and most people won't be bothered to go six pages in to see smaller and generally newer communities. Either way, directorylove Laughing

thanks siduscarmen and mattb4. Siduscarmen, we'll be providing more sorting options in the future, thanks for the suggestion.

Would be interesting if Lefora put some sub-directories in the current directories, it is because, for example, "Computer and Internet" is much generalist, inside this directory can coexist forums that is totally different from each other...

I did a google, msn, and dogpile search. All came up 0 for my forum.

"If you're forum is set to PRIVATE, it will NOT be listed in our category and will NOT be indexed by search engines." Where do I check this setting at?

I also agree with siduscarmen. There needs to be a total page count to. I got to about 100-150 (3rd page) and gave up.

hi xx-acher-xx, it looks as if you just joined lefora a few days ago? it takes at least 2 weeks for google to pick up your forum. As for MSN and dogpile, they're much slower and don't work as nicely as google. Google accounts for over half the search traffic on the internet, MSN and Dogpile are only a small fraction of search traffic.

Our focus is to help people find your forum through a Google Search, not by browsing through our directory. We host over 30,000 forums and growing. So we don't expect people to browse through a directory, but we do expect them to goto google and search something like 'sport car forums'.

The best thing you can do to have google fully index your forum is to link to it from many non-lefora sites. This includes any public profiles you have on the web (myspace, youtube, etc.). Also, if you participate in other forums, be sure to link to your forum from there.

Privacy settings are in your admin panel under 'settings', lefora is fully public by defult. If you have 'membership required to view forum', then google will not be able to read it.

I may have overlooked it, but would it be possible to add a search function to the Directory?

as most people find our forums directly from Google, you can actually search all of lefora's forum just by going to www.google.com and searching for something like this 'site:lefora.com KEYWORD'

so if i wanted to search for Ford Trucks, I could just search www.google.com for:

site:lefora.com Ford Trucks
