For new forums, there's always the chicken and the egg problem, content and members, you can't have one without the other.

We've done a pretty good job at solving the content problem, with our 'Content Importer' in the Admin Panel [Admin Panel -> Settings -> Content Importer]. This allows you to enter an RSS feed of a blog, newspaper, or some other source (like a youtube.com channel or flickr.com group).

Now, we're excited to give you a sneak peak at a new feature we've been working on. It will be available over the next week. It's a friend inviter that allows you to invite your friends from your email provider, such as hotmail, msn, yahoo, gmail, outlook, etc.

Invite-8

Just click 'Invite Friends' at the top of your forum (it's on your userbar, on the left, near the help link). This will allow you to enter your email address and password for the email service you use. Lefora will be able to find your contacts on that service and let you send out an email to your friends, inviting them to your new forum. You can pick and choose who to send these invites out to.

Hi,

Is there a syntax for RSS URLs that Lefora prefers for the Content Importer?
Our feed, which works for google/ bloglines/ yahoo and bookmarks doesn't appear in the new forum category we made for it. Maybe I have to 'prime' the new category with a post?

A fake example of our feed is:

I searched but I might have missed that post. Thanks.

that's OPML, which is different then RSS or ATOM. OPML is for a bunch of feeds to be put into one feedreader (wikipedia has great articles explaining the different technologies).

As long as a feed is valid RSS or ATOM, it will work on lefora. OPML is meant for feed readers (like you mentioned), not for importing content.

And it's best to post questions like this in a relevant topic or start a new one.
