SEO improvement and Google Analytics

My SEO is not very good. Actually, it is very bad. I guess it is my fault, because in the beginning I did not worry too much about the description and keywords, because I thought I could change them later.

I have changed the meta description and the keywords under Settings now, but this does not update the html source.

Can you help?

Also, can I use Google Analytics with this forum? Can I send you the code to insert it? We do not have access to this, do we?

Thanks!

Hi madalena, I see that your forum was started just one week ago, it will take 2-4 weeks for google to find your site on Lefora - we do a lot of work on the backend to make sure your page is search engined optimized - good to hear that you're interested in maximizing that.

We don't have support for google analytics code at the moment, but it's something we plan to offer in the future.

I understand that. But I still need to change the metadata and have no access to the html source. If I send you the right description and keywords, can you change it? Because otherwise Google will find us, but people will not. Smile

In the admin panel, you can edit your forums description in the settings page, this is used to populate the metadata in the html file.

We've put 100s of hours of work at making sure a site is most optimized for search engines. The #1 thing you can do in your forum to make sure you're getting lots of search traffic, is have many posts relating to your forums topic in your forum, make sure to post frequently each day so google and other search engines consider it an active site related directly to the topic of your forum.

"In the admin panel, you can edit your forums description in the settings page, this is used to populate the metadata in the html file."

I did this:

keywords: fórum, fórum de escrita, arte, escrita, prosa, poesia, pintura, fotografia, cinema, música, escultura, artistas, jovens

description: Um fórum de escrita, literatura, fotografia e outras artes, um fórum de discussão para jovens

description is now updated: <meta name="description" content="Um fórum de escrita, literatura, fotografia e outras artes, um fórum de discussão para jovens">

but I can not find the meta keywords

Hi madelana, the keywords are used mostly internally by lefora, they are not exposed in the html.

The meta keywords tag is generally considered obsolete, most search engines completely ignore it, including google; in fact having it may do more harm than good, as some not only ignore it but also view it negatively due to abuse by spammers.

The things to put your effort into are the description and title of the forum, and also the individual thread subjects.

Hope this helps.

Would placing the google analytics code into a Custom HTML sidebar widget work? I thought that it just needs to be placed anywhere between the "body" tag.

OK.. I just read in another topic how it conflicts with your own google analytics code.

that cannot be changed and is needed for SEO reasons to keep each page with a unique title.  We do that so google will better index your site.

Hello,

Can we use Google Webmaster Tools on Lefora?

I understand we need to wait to use Google Analytics on Lefora, reading all comments on this topic. Just looking forward to it.

How about Wembaster Tools? Please let me know.

BTW, enjoying your service. Thanks for your hard work, all Lefora team members!

hi fullpackage, we don't have support yet for admins to use webmaster tools, but it might be something we'll add in the future. Would you mind providing a little feedback on what you'd be most interested in seeing?  Are you familiar with yahoo site explorer, which is similar to webmaster tools but doesn't require you to verify the site for much of the stats they expose (which allows you to see under the hood of your competition :)

Just a simple question. Do the engines crawl our lefora keywords on forums or does Lefora get information and use it in house. I have been doing a study and am putting new keywords on my forum at http://hamchatforum.lefora.com. How often are they rechecked. Also is it best to do text or the meta tag format. Thanks.

which keywords are you referring to w8eeo?  Where are you adding them.

Lefora provides a sitemap for google to crawl your forum.  We've built a sophisticated system to have google crawl new topics and replies quite frequently on active forums (sometimes multiple times a day).

Forum admin> settings>setup>keywords.
Everything is fine but after reading some lately I decided to redo them for the last time ha ha .
I mostly was wondering if just the text or meta tags would be the best. I just know enough to be dangerous.

in there, just put about 15-20 keywords that describe your forum, we automatically put it in the meta tags for search engines.  However, it's not heavily used by search engines, you'll be much more effective by having good keywords in your categories and topic titles.

Hi Chief,

Thanks for your reply and excuse my late reply. I understand it takes time, and actually even the stat function of Lefora right now is special, comparing to the other forum services.

And sure, here are some of my feedbacks about those services, maybe for even the better future. Now I am using the three tools bellow for my own website, which is linked to my Lefora forum. Mainly just by curious, little for avoiding any risk of malicious access, etc.

* Google Analytics -though everything is great, if I force to say;
- The access date is just fun to see. Especially the "Contents by title" and "Map overlay" to improve the site contents.
-  "Unique Visitors" help me to figure out the real number of visitors. Especially because I am leading people direct to "Recent Post" to show the posting kind of like blog, as well as the forum top, the each topic view number is different from the real amount, I guess.

* Google Webmaster Tools
Since my site is quite young, not so special at this point. However;
- "where my site get linked from" is always good to know.
- Getting proper crawls with sending sitemap/RSS feed is a big plus.

* Yahoo site explorer
- Almost same as Google Webmaster Tools. The most helpful point for me is easy way to check how my site appears on the Yahoo search engine. (For Google, I use "site: bla bla bla.")
- To be honest, my interest is more in Google, because of their amount of information/crawls. Perhaps I am a dummy worshipper of Google.

Hope these sound sensible for experts like you guys. I am managing my site just for my fun, not for business, nor I am a tech expert.

Anyway, enjoying your service. Again, big applause for you guys' hard work & passion!
