Hi,
I solved that problem by setting up a separate forum with that specific purpose in mind and provided a link on both sites to traverse back and forth...it works very well and is very quick in switching from one forum to the other.

You could use a service like flickr to store your photos, then add a widget of all the photos in a flickr group, like this widget:
http://www.slideflickr.com/
One of the items we'll be offering in 2009 is a media gallery of all the photos and videos on your forum.
We set up a second forum for members pics. We started a topic called "Member's Galleries". Each member starts a new topic with their named gallery..such as "Shirley's Gallery", and then posted all their pics in that topic. We set up a general guest book for all galleries, so comments in regards to the galleries could be posted there and not in the individual topics, as a way of keeping all the pics together without a lot of posting between pics.
Works great!

used the 'media editor' (with the embed pictures button) and paste the flash embed code directly into the post.

Was just wondering how the media gallery you mentioned in a earlier post was coming along? I have several members that would like to have a photo gallery that they can post their pics in.

That's something a little further off. But there are other options for you and your members, you can add a photo slideshow widget to your sidebar as a 'custom html' widget. There are a few services that provide photo gallery widgets, such as widgetbox.com, slide.com, and flickr.com
