Is it possible to remove the Headlines section of a site?

Not sure if I understand, but if all you are hoping to do is to elimnate the Headlines tab/link being displayed. Just enter: #app_headlines a {display:none;} in the css page in the Admin panel.
and what might be helpful, is that members are automatically directed to the 'forums' page, more info here:

Ideally, would site to go directly to Forums and not have a Headlines section.
