I posted a similar post in another category, but I'd like to officially request that the terminology used for "Post" and "Topic" be more consistent. I and my users find it confusing that the two words mean the same thing.

A user clicks "Start a Topic", but then they click "Submit Post". I think ther term Topic or the term Post should be used throughout, but not both.

For me they do not mean the same at all. A Topic is what the posts under it are about. In fact the Title above this Edit box says: "Post your reply to this Topic:"  followed by a submit button.
Start a New Topic means to start a new area of discussion followed by posts on that subject.

thanks, this feedback has been noted, as i see it, one is a 'link' and one is a 'button'. Buttons usually mean 'post' something on the web. maybe the button could just be changed to the word 'submit' in the future.

mattb4: You make a good point. I do see how the two are different. And I like the Chief's idea for shortening the final button to just "submit".

By the way, until you pointed out the text label that says "Post your reply to this topic," I had never  noticed it. I guess the huge text entry area was enough of a clue for me.

I don't envy Chief and his friends. I know what it's like trying to build a web interface. A good book I read many years ago is by Steve Krug, and it's called, "Don't Make Me Think." It really makes some good points about interface design.

thanks Jonathan, we're a fan of Krug here and a few of us have read that book.
