Unable to post pics / gifs etc....

I must say....being new here up to this time I was very impressed with this service. I am a little perturbed that this new upgrade appears that it was not beta tested before launching it across the whole site. It would have been nice to have it tested here where admins could play with it, ask questions and be ready to answer questions and problem solve with their members instead of looking like fools with no clue as to what to tell them about all the features affected / gone screwy, and the new features and function of them.

I opened a new forum 1 week ago, and already had a few people complaining about the uploading process and some of the peculiarities of this set up. I know you cannot please everyone..that's an understood thing, but even my frustration level is rising at this point....btw..I'm only getting partial pm messages,  and cannot upload photos or gifs as well.

Hello kjt! when you say you can not upload what is going on instead? When I select the Upload file and choose my picture I get a line saying

  • Attachment: nameoffile.gif
At the bottom under the button. Now when I submit the picture is displayed.

It says it has uploaded the pic...I submit it and all I get is the file under the reply box with no pic in the post, and when I go to check the post in the topic, there is nothing there at all....like i never posted to begin with.(if it is a new topic I posted), if it was a reply.....when I submit it, I get the whole text editor showing up with the file listed below it and no pic to be seen.

You will not see the picture in the Text box. You will only see the file listed under the upload button. Once the post is submitted the picture appears. If you go to edit, the text box will not show the picture but will show the Attachment line at the bottom.

If you are not getting it to show up in the post but have gotten the Attachment mentioned then that is a issue for the Lefora folks. Seems to work flawlessly for me with the New editor where the previous editor was constantly stalling and not uploading images. I found for it I had to reload the page and try over.

Once I upload, I too get the file attachement at the bottom below the editor. I submit and I get nothing. If it was a reply I was attaching a pic in, I get the whole editor screen with the file attachment stated below it in the actual reply, but still no pic.
If it is a new topic I am posting..I get nothing.

kjt, maybe it's the filesize is too big?  could you try uploading something smaller here (you could save that dancing banana above and re-upload it)

I just went back to our forum and it appears to be working there now as well, but it did not earlier today - could not make a new topic or reply to a topic and get it to show up. Gremlins??

Some of my members have had trouble with posting smileys since the new posting editor was introduced, but have commented that the situation appears to have rectified itself during the course of this evening.
However our real issue with the new posting editor is posting photos from Flickr. In the old editor we were able to upload the HTML code as specified by Flickr, and it linked back to the photo on its main page with comments options.
Now that the HTML code option has been removed, the only means of posting a picture is by using the photos URL provided by Flickr - if you place the site address for the photo in the "insert image" box, a pop-up advises that this is an "Invalid image URL". The URL provided by Flickr which does work doesn't link back to the photo's comments page, and using this is contrary to Flickr's guidelines.
If anyone can advise how we can resolve this, we'd be grateful.
Is there any reason we can't have an HTML code option as before? It was so simple and efficient.

at the bottom of this topic, it mentions how to embed flickr photos

http://support.lefora.com/2009/01/16/tutorial-posting-media-on-lefora/page1/

we think we've made it even simpler and more efficient then the HTML code option :)  It's just 'new', so it takes time to learn, then it should be very quick for you.

Thanks for your response. There's so much on this forum it's difficult for a newbie to find their way around!
I've checked that, and it reads as follows:
Flickr
To embed a flickr picture on lefora, you just need to 'RIGHT CLICK' on the image and select 'Copy Image Address' or 'Copy Image URL' then paste this URL into your post and hit the <ENTER> or <SPACE> key.
I've tried that, but neither of the suggested options is offered. I'm using IE7.
Any further suggestions?

Any suggestions, please? Or can we please have HTML posting back?

On IE, the text may be slightly different when you right click, it should say "Copy Image Location"

We'll be adding tools for flickr photo detection in the near future.  Also, if you post the HTML in this thread, I'll show you how you can use the HTML to post the image in lefora.
