Google Advertising

#0, by gballarino, 31 January 2009 05:48 PM

I use Lefora for a professional discussion group.
I started the forum with the best intentions and ever since ads for "intimate asian dating" starting popping up my project tanked out, many members of the forum felt offended, and I am having troubles trying to set up a different forum.
Can we please block adult content from the advertising? I don't mind advertising, but porn and intimate dating is out of the question. I will have to move my forum somewhere else.
let me know if there's anything I can do to avoid this.

It cant be good to have this type of advert on your site.

I think it has something to do with having a membership approved forum.
It was something I read yesterday.

I too have had complaints from my members about these adverts. Blocking them goes against your rules so we cannot use Adblock or the like, please remove them.

hi, another thread was started about this.  we've had a recent 'spike' in asian forums on lefora recently - we're translated into 5 languages, including chinese.  After we learned of this issue 2 days ago, we changed around our ad system so google ads know what is chinese and what is english (their ad server seemed to be confused).

so apologies on having those ads served up, it should be fixed over the next few days as google ads correct themselves - technically, google is not supposed to server up adult ads at all.

well, they are.
there's an ad for "Mat1, Intimate Dating" that pops up 30% of the time in my forum.

hi gballarino, i see your forum is set to restrict public viewing.  This will cause confusion on google's adserver.  I'm not sure the format of your forum or the topics covered, but if you could open it up publicly (even temporary for a few weeks), it would help google's adservers reset themselves.

And just how do we keep the trolls out in that time. Sorry, no way are we doing that.
This is not the response I was expecting Chief, surely you can block the ads to restricted forums without us having to open them up to cure someone else's problem.

and for anybody experiencing this issue, our apologies, it's a new issue that popped up less than a week ago.  We'll be working with google to fix it, please allow for some time for it to be corrected in your forum.   If your forum is publicly accessible, you shouldn't be experiencing this, there's also the option for ad removal at $15/mo - just email me at 'chief -at- lefora.com'

sorry about all this.
this should get 'fixed' before the end of the week, we've completed some ad changes on our side today, now it takes a while for google to realize.

Now the 20th of Feb and Google adverts are still appearing with Chinese text even with links to UK sites. See image below taken today. Not to mention adverts for DATING Sites.

I have noticed these as well on the Forum that I keep Private for Staff. My Main Forum seems to have targeted adds based around what is being discussed (mostly Linux and Computers). Since my Main Forum is open to anyone to read (only members can respond) it does not suffer from the Chinese adds.

The pic I posted above was taken from the logon screen before I logged on. That is open to all I thought?

We changed the ads to text only temporarily so that those pics aren't showing up.

Currently, we have no control over what ads google shows, they pick and choose.  We're working on solutions to fix this.  If your forum is public, google can do a much better job at placing ads.

If this is causing issues for anybody, we do have an ad removal option, just send me an email at 'upgrades@lefora.com'

I have just started my forum about 2 weeks ago which is a recovery forum. I also had adult related adds but now most of them have changed into adds about recovery solutions.
