Profile customization

it would be cool if we could get a little simple customization to our profiles. heres some thoughts. *forgive me if you allready have some of these features. im just spit ballin'  here.*

• what if someone doesnt want to share which forums they belong to?
• Age, Sex, Location
• Birthday
• Status, Married, single, divorced
• favorite music, movies, books.
• Smoke/Drink?
• Occupation
• Hobbies
• Maybe able us to put up a video from youtube. like a music video.
• very simple color options.
• photo albums.

it could be an option to fill these out or not. just a thought

Yup I agree ;) Of course, you could just put all that info in the "About field".

I'd skip the image galleries and youtube embedding  - This isn't Myspace and it's better because of it.

what I meant was....like... I run a music forum for fans...It would be cool for us to be able to post our favorite music video. im just spitballin' here of course.

If you post it in youtube you can put the flash link in your about field.

I think gotthenet is referring to the 'About' field in your profile. You could link to your favourite vid on youtube.

I would also like to see the ability to customize either the registration page (the required fields one needs to fill in in order to register) and/or the Profile page (maybe I am doing a forum for colleges and want one of the required fields to be "university".  Can anyone respond to whether either the registration or profile pages can be customized by admin, and if so, how?

The registration page cannot be customized, we may offer options in the future about asking new members custom questions, but that's sometime away.  In the meantime, many forum admins have used an 'Introduce yourself' sticky topic to have members post this information within the forum.

And one reason we keep the registration so quick and simple, is to make it quick and easy for new members to join your forum.  Each additional question makes the signup process a bit longer and can turn off potential new members.  Personally, I hate how complicated some forum signups are - sometimes I just want to leave a comment, not tell my life - but I understand different forums require different needs.

One unique feature of lefora compared to traditional forum software are the profiles.  On lefora, when you view somebody's profile by clicking their avatar, you see what they've been saying, and what has been voted up the most.  This is a much richer experience for members as the profile is very relevant to the topics of the community, and it's always changing with fresh new content.

I wish there was a way to keep your profile private - or at least parts of it like:

• all your posts at any forum you own or joined
  
• the forums you belong to
• the forums you created

Being able to turn parts of your profile ON or OFF of public view would work for me. I can see leaving your pic public.  You can add in all the things others want - so long as they are optional and can be "shut off".

I'd like to be able to use different pics or nicknames on different forums - like a gardening pic or nick just doesn't work at a technical forum!

i agree with the canuck. what if someone is cheating on their wives and is in the "how to cheat on your wife" forum? ok, well thats an extreme example. but it would be cool to keep certain things private.

Well Nicky, I would say that is his problem, not Leforas LOL! Here I go again. I like it just the way it is and don't want to see very many changes. It's simple, and that is very hard to find.

if you would like to keep your 'identity' separate from one forum to another - we recommend that you create two different accounts, one for each (you're free to do this on lefora).  This will keep everything separate, including your dirty deeds from your wife :P  

And like wrenna mentioned, this keeps lefora 'simple' since you don't have to tweak and manage settings - our philosophy is the less buttons and checkboxes, the easier lefora is to use.

auntiecanuck, your profile only shows posts within the current forum, not from other forums, however, a user can click through your other forums to see your profile on that forum.

thanks Chief! that makes more sense! dangit now everyone thinks i cheat. haha. im a good boy! . But thanks chief, thats a much easier solution.
