tracking a topic (thread)

Our profile gives us the option of receiving an e-mail when somebody posts to a topic (thread) we are tracking. What one of our forum members asked, and I can't answer for the life of me, is how we (a member) can "track" a topic.  They must need to click on something some place. LOL
I'm sure somebody else has asked this in here but I can't find it.

At the moment, there is no way to do this but I believe this is a feature support are working to introduce. You could copy the permalink of the first post in that topic to your bookmarks/favourites so you can jump to that topic instantly.

Thanks HAL9000. I'll headline this on our front page. So, if I understand it correctly, unlike most other message board systems, such as MSN, Multiply, etc - Lefora does not have the means of directing an email to you when something changes on the message board ? If so, this is a major restriction. It looks like we may have to stick with Multiply. That's a pity because some of the other simple things about lefora were good.

If you go to your PROFILE and select EDIT, then navigate to Notifications and Manage Notifications you'll see various options for notifications.

Manage Notifications

Email me when somebody:
  • Sends me a private message
  • Replies to a topic I am tracking
This second option is currently disabled but when it is working allows you to track a topic

correct hal9000, thank you. The instant notification will return in the future.

In the meantime, there are other options for getting instant notifications, such as subscribing to your forum's RSS feed (it's a full feed of all posts on your forum). RSS can be converted into emails, using a service provided by google - feedburner.com

For instance, the RSS feed of the support forum is:

http://support.lefora.com/feeds/threads/

A feedreader can notify you of changes to posts, or you can use feedburner.com to convert this feed into an email with each new post.

Just tried to paste the name of my forum into Feedburner but it says the address "is not a feed." Then used the exact format of your example above, and it didn't work, either. Can you please explain how we create a feed that can be burned from our forum addresses? Or how we subscribe to our Lefora forum's RSS feed? Our group really needs a reminder of forum activity!

I just click on the orange box in the address bar and copy the link it takes me to. I don't know if that's the proper way, though...

yes, you can just click the orange 'RSS' icon in your webbrowser next to the URL, to get the feed of your forum.

Here's what the RSS feed for the support forum looks like:
feed://support.lefora.com/feeds/posts/?format=atom

Normally feedburner can detect the RSS feed of a lefora forum, but in your case, since it's private, feedburner can't get in to see the feed.  However, if you click the orange icon at the top of your forum (when viewing the /forum or /headinlines page), you'll get a special token in the URL (like a password), that will grant feedburner access.
