I wish for numbered thread replies
In a very busy forum it would be great for everyone but particularly for me as an admin to be able to find a reply easier via numbers. Sometimes I have to delete for the members since they can't, or if I need to delete for any other reason (trollish or abusive replies) the members are great at reporting them to us but its very difficult for them to tell us exactly where they are in very long threads.
Anyway, thats my feature request for today. Thanks for all you do!
Not exactly what you want. You could ask people that report a post to give the page number where the offending post is plus name of the poster. Might save some time.
Might be a good feature to have a report this post link on every post. With a notice at the Forums black bar of violations. The link could take a Staff member to the offending post. Could be too much work to code for the Lefora folks with all the other stuff they are working on.
Or you could right-click 'permalink' - copy shortcut, and paste that in your complaint message - takes you right to the post. eg http://support.lefora.com/2009/02/24/i-wish-for-numbered-thread-replies/6764785/
I'm not sure what else the permalink is for or the right way to use it - I've never really figured it out....
That makes two of us Co.Jack
Permalink seems too threatening to play with since it contains Perma short for permanent. My past years surfing the 'net taught me to be leery of doing anything permanent to my computer (speed up your computer now! check for viruses! d/l this custom toolbar and the like).
thanks colonel
wrenna, i think the permalink is what you are looking for. It's a unique link to every post in your forum. You can just ask somebody to right click the word 'permalink' on a post or reply and select 'Copy', this will be the unique URL of that post on their clipboard - where they can send it to you.
OK thanks. I've suggested using the permalink feature but some of them seem to share Matt's wariness of it!
:) please let them know there's nothing to worry about the term. It's a common convention used by other webservices to state the 'permanence' of a link - a very positive thing.
Have you ever copied a link from one website and give it to another person, but they end up viewing something different from you? A permalink resolves this problem and is a way to make sure everybody can see the same post.
It's incredibly helpful in message boards, as it will take you right to the reply, even if it's halfway down the page, so that you don't have to say 'page 2, halfway down', you just send a permalink. We're one of few forum services to offer such a helpful feature.
I would hate to think that people think of this as a bad thing when it offers so much value. You can read more about it on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permalink
