How do RSS feed content
I removed the RSS feed address and deleted all the content in the RSS catagory but when I come to remove the catagory it states that there is still content and I would have to move it to another catagory.
I too had this problem. I created an ARCHIVE Category with ADMIN Only posting rights and moved the posts to it. I could then remove the category where the RSS feeds were. I think it takes a while before the database index to clear. If it still reports posts, try making a manual post there and then delete it.
That is a bug, where it warns you that there is content still in the category. You can just choose to move it to another category and nothing will actually get moved.
I tested out an RSS feed myself and I LOVE this feature.
My questions:
I wanted to remove it for the time being since I was just playing around and getting an idea of how to improve a forum.
So, If I remove a feed, all the posts that were posted still remain and I have to delete them one by one myself? Do I have that correct?
And while on the subject of RSS feeds -- I can actually move the feed posts into categories on my board -- I did not try this but am just asking for understanding.
How about blog posts that have tags at the end of the post, do the tags show up -- are they linked like they would be in the original site blog post?
Thanks so much.
Can anyone answer my previously posted questions here? Thanks.
Hi, you will have to remove the posts one-by-one, there is no bulk delete action at the moment. As for the tags, that depends on the blog, so I can't say, you'll have to test it and try out (feel free to report your findings here).
Also, please give at least one business day to expect a response on support, your first post was less than 24hours ago on a sunday.
I am very very sorry -- I noticed that the post was falling off the page and thought another forum member would/could respond if it went back to the top rather than getting buried on the next page. It won't happen again.
Thank you for the information.
A few things I noticed about importing feeds.
1. On my Headlines page after doing a test -- I see this (title -- content):
Test Post --"Testing this out for RSS feed for the site.[image]"
Test Post 2 --"Just another test. Thanks.[image]"
(A Blogspot blog I was experimenting with.)
I don't know what [image] is as there was no image in the test post.
The tag/label did not show (so no live links) so maybe that means image (of the tag/label)?
Then I tried a new post (#3) without a tag/label, and that did not post at all on the feed.
2. After adding the feed, the first two posts I made worked (previously posted on the blog before adding the RSS feed to Lefora) but when I added posts 3 and 4 on the blog, they did not show up on my Lefora forum, unless there is a time lapse so I will wait and see on that but for now, it is not automatic like in an RSS reader.
I will check back tomorrow on this to see if it shows with a time lapse.
3. I tried a Multiply blog RSS and the lists they have for recommendations or links, are cut off and no live link is available in the feed. (The live links are in the titles of these components.)
Videoes don't show on the feed, just their titles on a post, and neither do the photo albums but the titles of the albums show as post titles.
All those posts had to be deleted from the feed since there was no content, just titles and some cut off info as described.
Maybe this information might or might not help you.
Thanks.
1. thanks. then we don't show tags from the feeds.
2. there is a time lapse, about a day (or possibly two), it's not meant for real-time imports.
3. it's probably the way the rss feed is structured on multiply's end, because we'll bring in media if it's embedded in the feed.
You can modify the behavior of a feed before importing it into lefora using the service Yahoo Pipes - http://pipes.yahoo.com/
Thanks again for the http://pipes.yahoo.com site.
Just wanted to let you know that the additional blog posts after adding the feed did show up this am so it does take a while (a few days) for enteries to be imported. This is really a very nice feature!
The [image] text -- don't know exactly why that is showing but it seems to show when the word label is used in the feed post.
And just a note in case others are reading this.
I thought of moving topics in my feed into other board categories (rather than the default "blogosphere" category) on the message board but then I thought, if I ever discontinue the feed, the messages would be scattered on the boards and also inbetween members posts if I were to delete them, one by one, as it is now set. Like hunting.
Hopefully, boxes for multiple message deleting may be a future consideration.
I was reading on another thread about the ability to add an avatar to any feed you import giving members a visual clue -- good idea that would be appreciated when you get around to it.
