IP Address
Is there any way I can track the IP Adress of one of my members? He has been using some language. Plus, on one of my other forums, there was a person who had the same name and had bad language. So I want to compare the IP Addresses so I can see if it is the same person. Thank you, and have a good day.
For privacy reasons, we don't display the IP address of members, but we do a number of things on the back end to try to detect people returning to your forum that you have banned. If you've banned somebody, and they try to create a new account with a different username, we'll try to catch that and put them in your pending member list so that you must approve (even if your forum auto-accepts membership
If you're having real trouble with a member, please email me at 'chief -at- lefora.com' and i'll see if we can help another way.
Hi Total, my thoughts are, I think I am correct in saying, first its supposed to be illegal to track people without having permission ie authority like a lefora host, if you don`t like the guy ban him, ie like chief says he can block same IPs rejoining, but then if some are like me, I share a server modem with others where I live, not all people coming live from my IP are the only ones using that IP, in our place we have four laptops and one home computer, operating from the same IP address. Another thing I will mention, is some people have IPs that change their address everyday, so its not going to stop a persistant member. I was banned recently for no reason, so my sympathy is for the ones banned, (not mentioning any names) I do understand someone who is purely trying to disrupt your forum should be dealt with quickly, but isn`t that what forum managers are for, to monitor the bad conduct from all sides and nip it in the bud? I feel bad because my banning makes it look like I am bad, when in truth the manager just decided I was a guy they knew before, so don`t be to hasty to assume its the same guy.
