Editing other peoples posts

It would be great if there was a way of editing other peoples posts if they have, for example, broken a rule you've made. At the moment all I could do would be to delete them. If you can already do this, how?

Also, a differant style of name - differant colour, italicized etc - for the admins and mods to make them easier to distinguish. Thanks

thanks for the feedback chris, the posting philosophy of not allowing other people (even admins) to change a post is to protect/preserve free speech. But if something is offensive, by all means, delete it and send the member a warning.

We'll keep in mind a way to highlight admins as we make improvements to the 'role' system on lefora

If I need to edit a post I copy and paste it and then edit it. Then I delete the original offending post. The fact that I (and other moderators) have to go through a couple of extra steps is actually a good thing. If its too easy then it will be done too often or with a little less thought. It's a bit of a pain which ensures (for the most part) that we only do it when we have to.

I am all for not editing other peoples posts. I would however absolutely like/need/love/need... did I say need to be able to edit subjects and thread titles.

So many threads on our forum have vague, misleading or unrelated subjects and it makes it time consuming/difficult to keep the place clean, clutter free and organized. If this could some how be implemented into the admin/mod abilities I would greatly appreciate it. I truly feel others would find this very helpful as well.

thanks, yes, editing subjects is vital (even here on support), we'll be adding support for this in the future.

Would this be something that can be done somewhat easily? Easily as in quickly...

I didn't see it on the upcoming things to do list thats been put up. Possibly some sort of time frame? This way I/we can do something about it until it is implimented, or just wait it out until we can edit things for a more organized, streamline site.

Thanks cheif!

not everything gets put into the upcoming feature list, as we have our own internal one that's huge.  we're gonna try to get this implemented over the next week or two.

I would like to be able to edit links within posts, not the post itself.  I have rules about what types of links will not be accepted.  As an example, affiliate links are prhibited (except for the administrator).  I would like to be able to redirect an affiliate link to the merchant's natural domain or a link of my choosing.

In some cases, I would warn a member but they may have posted useful information but it's only the link I'm concerned about.

Personally I would copy and paste the post made by the member, edit it and include an explanation then submit. Finally I would delete the original. Editing posts will never be allowed as far as I can tell. The only other way would be to temporarily make the member a moderator which allows them to edit the post and then withdraw that privilege when the edit was done.

You will have to make them a Admin. Moderators do not have rights to edit after 15mins just like a regular member.

why can i not edit   posts, in OUR FORUM  not this  forum OUR FORUM we make our rule's colectivly & as  democratic as we can, we do not DICTATE no you will never be able to edit or  we are not going to let you,
this is not an option  the  option is to let people administer THEIR FORUM again THEIR FORUM,
Personally I would copy and paste the post made by the member, edit it and include an explanation then submit. Finally I would delete the original.
