Am I able to choose the featured topic ? If not ,is the featured topic chosen  due to number of replys?

Yes, you could read the 'Lefora FAQ', where you could find the answer to this question. The link for this is cunningly hidden at the top of the sidebar on the right. Alternatively, using the Forum Search and searching for "Featured Topic" would also lead you to the FAQ. This search box is hidden at the top of the screen.

The short answer is, you can't.  You are stuck with whatever they decide to plunk there.  This issue still ticks me off to no end, and I don't know if I will ever be able to forgive Lefora for this travesty.

When I asked the same Q, I was :

1.  Told to use CSS, etc. so the page won't display to members (that doesn't stop the page from being shown to non-members/visitors nor does it remove the page from existence)

2.  Told to ignore it.

Most of the folks here just don't seem to get our concern that what is being displayed there is not current, nor representative of, nor useful to us in presenting to others what our groups are about.  As a matter of fact, it's too often just the OPPOSITE!

- They don't get it that we'd like very much to have that Headlines page WITH SOMETHING RELEVANT in the featured topic area.

- They couldn't or wouldn't provide the algorithm used by the "Featured Topic Mangler tool" to determine what goes into that Featured topic.  (I suspect it involves a dart board.)

- They don't get it that we have marketing-type concerns that unsuitable posts in the Featured Topic will turn off non-member/visitors, driving them away rather than enticing them to join.

So count me in if you wish to fire up this issue again.

In the meantime, I'm going to experiment with deleting the "featured topic" threads (and maybe reposting after editing all the messages into one larger one so as not to attract the attention of the Featured Topic Mangler).

well Thank-you both! I did read the FAQ but after about 5 pages gave up-I will be patience the next time-hopefully:)
Well then, I too shall try to delete the "Featured Topic"
But I really should have control on what my featured topic should be on. It helps promote good will among members too. Perhaps they can change this in the future.:)

The 'headlines' page is something that we very much want to improve in the future.  It's just taking a lower priority to other features we're currently working on and excited about:

Product Roadmap & Known Issues

And remember, the headlines page is only the default view to 'non-members', returning members of your forum are not brought to that page, they are brought to the default forum view (the forum tab).  More info here.

"And remember, the headlines page is only the default view to 'non-members',"

See, I told you they just don't get it.

Okey Dokey:) I understand there can be only so many pots on the stove. I'm excited to read it's on the list but more excited to see what's coming next! smile

Is it impossible to make the Headliner the entry pg? Or is that just a big big pain of endless hours of updating...or not.  It would be nice if members and non saw this pg first-it's great for marketing as you already know but it's an ego boost for some member types...wink "ya gotta stroke the egos if you want to keep people interested don't ya know-"so my Uncle tells me.  He's a funny guy but smart-very smart.

Ok well, Thanks so much for all of the hard work ya'll do here and I am very happy with things at this time.

Have an awesome weekend.

I can't believe you're going to do this again.

And from the looks of it, be successful at it.

Let me know if I can help.
