Some recent changes to your topic layout

#0, by chief, 16 March 2009 08:21 PM

UPDATE 4:30pm PST, Mar 16

We've moved a few things around on the topic view page to help admins moderatre, and help members post.

Admins & mods now have a Topic Admin Actions button that will drop down a little topic control panel, just click on the button:

turns into...

You can now:

  • NEW: Change the subject title of the post.  Though, the URL won't change, which is not optimal for Search Engine Optimization (so try not to overuse  it)
  • NEW: Access this menu from subsequent pages on a topic (you used to have to go back to Page 1 for these options)
  • Move the topic to a new category
  • Mark a topic as sticky
  • Lock a topic from new replies
  • Delete a topic
  • Mark a topic as spam

Editing/Deleting/Flagging Spam on replies:
If you would like to take individual actions on a reply to a topic, there is no more drop down, now there are links inline just below the thumb up/down icons.  You can click once on a link to take the action.  You'll have the option of 'undoing' this click before you leave the page.

Posting Box:

  • Bread Crumbs - The first blue arrow points to forum Category, just click on it to return to the category listing
  • Topic Title - We've repeated the topic title right above the posting box.  We believe this will help keep replies on topic.  It also helps towards the request of many MSN managers about reposting the parent topic down at the bottom.
  • Submit Reply - We moved this to the bottom right, people were getting confused with the two buttons (upload and post) right on top of each other.  And it's typical that an 'OK' or 'Submit' button is in the bottom left of a field.

Future changes:

  • View count - we'll display how many views a topic has, when looking at the topic.

The 'Breadrcrumbs' change is excellent - really makes browsing back and forward easier. grin

It's like a trail down through the categories - here we're in 'Categories > News'

No, because, there are no sub-categories in 'News'

I have just moved some of my dead posts to a topic called THE MORGUE.But when i check there, they have not gone there, but have been removed from original post.

But when you search for them, they appear(supposedly)in THE MORGUE.

E.G. this is THE MORGUE   http://horrorclassics.lefora.com/forum/category/dead-links/page1/

a search for ANGEL HEART brings this up  http://horrorclassics.lefora.com/forum/search/?cx=partner-pub-1564481135726878%3A4684vf4ljji&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=angel+heart&sa=Search

when you press the link  http://horrorclassics.lefora.com/2009/01/06/angel-heart-1987/page1/

this is what appears,it says it is in the morgue, but that and some more posts, seemed to have vanished, deleted from original posts, but not in the morgue?

P.S.

Our search facility is still all over the place and unreliable,is there any chance of this getting fixed pleased.

I see the 'angel heart' post listed right here.  (and for search questions, since we started emailing back and forth, it's best to just reply to my last email)

The problem of the topics not showing up is now fixed. When a topic was moved the listing itself wasn't updated.

I do not mean to be funny, but the morgue was empty except for 2 posts, uptil i wrote my question,it is only after writing it,they seemed to have appeared.Did you correct the problem, because i would not report a fault that does not exist.

Thanks for a great new features!

One suggestion -- in the Show Topic Admin Actions --> can you put a red cancel text button or "close this box" to close the box if an admin changes their mind and wishes not to change anything?

Thanks.

OK thanks so much -- just click on "Show Topic Admin Actions" text again and the box goes away.
Maybe there should be a red x there also next to the text to signify that.

From what the mods on our site have been saying, they don't have the "topic admin actions" button either. Was this just a bug on the Italian version, or on all of them? I'll have to check back with them to see if they now have it but as of the last time I talked to them, they didn't.

Maybe only admins have the option?

It says in the original post that admins & mods now have the Topic Admin Actions button... which is why I'm mainly curious as to why they can't see/use it.
