Categories / Group Seperators all screwy

We'll look into this.  If you can provide us any more feedback (such as it works when you add one category at a time, but not 2+, what webbrowser you're running, and if you've tried on both IE & Firefox) it will help us debug.

If you could delete the categories yourself, that'd be alright, but I honestly am getting frustrated. So frustrated that I'm considering switching to PHPBB already. Also, like I said, whenever I add seperators or anything of the sort, it screws EVERYTHING up by making categories into group seperators, and vice versa

Not knowing if there is some other problem but from reading your post there may be a problem with definitions. The setup is Group>Category>Topic>Posts.
You by default start with one Group with all the Categories under it. When some one Picks a Category than they can see all the Topics in that Category. They can than post to a Topic or start a new one in a Category.

So lets say you want Two Groups;

Group A is for all things beginning with "A"
(under it is Categories)
Apples
Aardvarks
Assembly Code

Group "B"
Bananas
Bicycles
Blimps

A Forum member could post a Topic to the Category "Bananas" such as Creme pies. Other people could comment on it and you would have a Thread going.

The Forum Admin Panel uses a misnomer when it has + add new Category "Separator". The Separator is really by using +add new Group.

I understand how it works. When I click Save, it used to screw them up, but it would save. Now it just hangs on saving categories

I'm not able to recreate this, does this happen for you every time?  Could you give specific actions that you're taking and I will try to recreate the error (we need to recreate the error in order to fix).

Also, please post your forum's URL address and the categories that are giving you headaches.

We're making fixes to fumples forum, it was a specific error to his forum.  If anybody else experiences the same error, please let us know by posting here.

I can not delete catagories or group seperators. I have emptied them but the save wheel goes round and round and round

i just posted a bug about this:

May 5, Error deleting categories with 0 topics.  However, there is a temporary work-around for this.  1. Create a temporary topic in the category you would like to delete (you can name it 'Temp' and post 'temp' into the text.  2. Delete the Category from your admin panel.  You'll be warned that you must moved any remaining topics.  3. Go to the category where the topic was moved and delete the Topic.

what about saving because i just cant save them no matter what i do

I have the issue with not being able to save changes I make to the catagories with Forum Admin also. In the forum:

I am trying to delete the catagory groups without topics. They were copied over during the takeforum migration. I tried instead the work around you suggested by adding catagories first. However the saveing changes symbol just keeps on spinning. I tried making minor changes also like making one of the catagories admin posts only then saving and received the same issue.

To be clear I cannot save any changes to the catagories and groups in the admin panel.

I tried this using Chrome, IE7 and IE8.

I was able to remove a category group, but now I find myself unable to rename categories, move topics between categories, or delete categories.

This is a bit of a problem.

sorry about this bug, we're working on fixing it right now, it will take a week or two before the fix is live on your forum though, sorry for the inconvenience during this time.

In that case, can you please manually change our categories?

We would like the structure to look like this:

Discussion Topics (single category group)
* Discussion
* Prayer Requests
* Events
* Ladies Only
* Gentlemen only

All other categories should be removed.
