Last week our mail server went back online, we didn't make any mention of it because we've been working out a few tweaks and slowly turning on the different email notifications.

Our mail server is now hosted on a new service provider which will greatly help us add new types of email notifications in the future.  We apologize for the long upgrade time and now have a very scalable and robust system in place.

The most important change you will see is better deliverability of emails into your members inboxes.  Lefora sends so many emails each day, that we have to follow strict guidelines and rules to make sure emails don't get treated as spam.  This was an issue for lefora email in the pass, but should no longer be an issue going forward.

Email Notifications currently going out:

  • Group Email (from the Admin)
  • Private Message Notification
  • Forum Welcome messages to new members
  • Forgot Password reset form
  • Forum Membership requires approval (to pending members)
  • Forum Members Approved (when pending members are approved)
  • Admin Only: 'New Forum' created info message to admins
  • Admin Only: A member is requesting access to your forum

Email Notifications that will come online over the next few weeks:

  • You've been invited to a forum
  • A Daily Digest of all new unread activity
  • Email address validation with a confirmation email
  • Lefora Admin Newsletters

Future Email Notifications (more than a few weeks away):
  • Track-It Notifications for instant emails
  • Automatic bi-weekly newsletters

Your email notifications preferences have been moved out of your User Dashboard (edit profile), to a page that's accessible via a link at the bottom of every email.  This is to make it SUPER easy to optout of notifications - it doesn't even require a login.  You can turn on/off individual notifications from this link.

== Questions: ==
Will old email notifications be sent out?
No, as many of the notifications wouldn't be relevant anymore.  If you would like to notify your community to come back and check out what's new on your forum - that would be a good idea.  Write a brief 'Group Email', recapping some recent developments and asking your members to double check if they have any PMs waiting for them.  Be sure to include a link to your forum in the announcement.
