Discussion of Leforas Roadmap.

Just a peeve of mine that Lefora posts a Roadmap but locks the Subject to discussion. I also notice when a "Feature" is added, There is a post about it but the Topic is locked. This does seem to create a atmosphere of "we will do what we want and you will like it. The recent comment on the Topic about adding Facebook integration "One of the most frequent questions we get is 'How do I get more members to my forum?" I rarely see this question with much frequency here in Support. I never have seen any request for Facebook Integration. Perhaps it is a nice thing to have, I would not know. I do know it does not address issues that are more pressing to Forum Founders.

Frankly I have not seen many of the Bugs and Forum Admins request for Features being addressed. The subject of Ranks, Backup of Forums by the Forums Owners, Email notifications (I know this is ongoing but it has been for months and presently is really a poor notification system. I think if a poll was taken of Features that most Admins wanted, I imagine a better notification system would be on the Top of the list.), and numerous others.

Lefora is a Business and needs to make money to survive and grow so I can understand the need to focus on that first. It however is dependent on the goodwill of all who work on making a successful Forum. I would wish that Lefora takes some time to give the Forum Founders a say about overall direction. Discussing the Pros and Cons of things would be a positive step.

This is not meant to be a attack on the folks behind Lefora, They have been very responsive and are really a bunch of Great guys. Just something to think about when direction is debated.

To address if anybody else is feeling these frustrations:

1. "News" topics are usually locked, but that in no way means you can start your own topic on it, in fact, I frequently encourage that when I say 'this topic is locked, if you have a question, please start a new topic with an appropriate subject' - this ensures that replies within a topic stay 'on-topic', otherwise else it's just many different posts and becomes difficult to manage.  This support forum is completely open to start new topics.

2. There are many avenues of feedback beyond this support forum, from our feedback form on www.lefora.com, to emails, to a network of 'Awesome Admins' that send me suggestions from time to time.  The 'how do i promote' my forum question is asked quite frequently.  We also welcome all feedback here on support and always address posters in a timely and respectable fashion.

Of this, there is no question. Lefora has one of the better Support response Teams.

Regarding Rank and instant Email Notifications of posts. I believe these are highly important to the promotion of a Forum. They are nigh essential when it comes to retaining members that you have got to initially show up.

Thanks Matt.  More Email Notifications is something that we are working on at the moment, but it's a bigger project and so it moves slower, there is a lot we want to add here, it helps everybody, members, admins, and even lefora.  'Roles' are in our sites as well.  Features are built out on a number of factors - such as demand vs. resources it takes us to build them (we're just a six man team).

"6" ?!?  I hope that is just the Support folks. Otherwise who hauls out the 3 day old leftover pizza and answers the phone? It sounds a bit light to keep on top of things. Not to mention the maintenance required for the equipment you must use.

Oh well, thanks for responding. smile

i'd be a terrible ninja, the first rule of being a ninja, is not letting anybody know you're there...  the other guys on the team, they have it covered...
