Wrong default category is showing up for starting a new topic
I've had a couple members report problems with posting, one last night and one today.
Basically what seems to happen is they will be in a category and post a topic, with the correct category (current one) chosen in the drop-down menu at the bottom. They'll submit the topic, but it posts to a different category than the one that had been chosen. One of those members is an admin and was able to change the location of the topic with her admin abilities without an issue, but obviously the regular member was unable to do that.
Actually, I had something probably related just happen, and have more info in general.
I was in the Bugs category here to make my post. However, the dropdown menu for categories was defaulted to FAQ. I changed it before posting and it went to the right place.
Yes, I just double-checked on my board. When in ANY category, the General board is the default board chosen when making a new topic, as opposed to the category name of the board that you're in. (Again, using the "start a new topic" button on the top left, not the big "Start a Topic" link on the top right. I'm using midnight juice, if that matters.)

Although the problem I noted was that the posting category wasn't defaulting to the currently viewed category. I've had no problem with posts going to the wrong category once the category was chosen.
No, I think you're right about the issue, coloneljack. I think my members might not have been describing it right (or I might not have understood them correctly).
It's amazing how much you take it for granted until it breaks, eh?
