Some noob questions
Hi there I am currently building a forum after the phpbb forum that I currently have has suffered terrible downtime and problems.
I use my forum to run my gaming supergroup and it is constantly in use - I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you can help with
- Can I set a moderator only viewing topic/catagory?
- Can I have some areas where non registered users can post?
- Can I have a top poster on my sidebar?

Hi von, welcome to lefora, here are some answers:
for your first two bullet points, you cannot set privacy settings at the category level, how every, you can create more forums on lefora and control who has access to what, and link between the forums, members can use the same accounts on lefora, they don't need to create new ones or login between forums.
You can have a top poster on your sidebar, it's a widget you add from your admin panel -> Appearances -> Sidebar
