Simple question for forum templates
IS THERE AN EDITOR? NOT FIREBUG
For Preexisting Forum Templates, one that accurately tells me what I'm color string actually pertains to which text color on the screen? Trying to do this in Firebug which I dont know how to use is way to difficult and the help I'm getting here isn't working out either.
No, there is no editor.
Ok thanks ColonelJack, Is there any way to construct an editor or is that in the works?
I would assume there is no way to construct an editor, although I wouldn't guarantee that, as the code is updated occasionally.
There is no mention of an editor in the Lefora Roadmap.
Thats too bad, most of the online editing I've done has been with editors as they make it easier to build stuff than knowing what the hell you are doing lol.
This is my site
http://hys.eamped.com/members/
I am presently using one of the themes you constructed, the awesome theme or some such. I have these two green bars in the "members section" I dont know why they are green, or how to change their color. Using the firebug thing, I dont know what they hell I'm looking at, but I'm trying to find out how and where to change the color, I think this is the color #F0F0F0 I'm looking for but I dont have the tools to know what color that is how where to find that in your theme text page. Really what would be great would be if instead of just a text file, there was a spread sheet too, which showed either a photo of which line affects which properties in the css, or a simple explanation so that a person knows what they are editing.
Unless I'm missing something, there really is no way to know what you are doing besides trial and error? Well that could take me weeks to figure out, is there a more efficient way?
Any help very much apprecaiated.
If you're using firebug, right-clicking the item you'd like to change and selecting 'Inspect Element' should show you the code - depending on how many elements are overlapping. The other option with with firebug is to open it, select 'Inspect' from the left hand side of the window - running it over the page will show you a blue box around individual elements as you move the cursor over the screen.
I have a few videos showing this in the firebug category of hackyour.lefora.com
Yeah I'm to the point of understanding how to use inspect, what I can't find, is the color string itself in the firebug screen, or in your theme. Let me start taking photos and showing you what I mean...
Here is the color scheme. I figured out how to get rid of the background image which just isn't going to fit with the forum. Also...
I have these 2 green bars in the member forum. I can't find where these are in the CSS which is here...
CSS Original
Ok I cant post it cause it errors out. I'm starting to think these forums really suck.
SO where is the GREEN BAR and how to I get rid of it?
The bars in the member area can't be changed. It sucks, but how often does anyone go there?
LOL
No wonder I couldn't find that. Duh. So ok whats the deal why cant they be changed? LOL
That just makes me laugh cause I've been chasing that answer for 2 days Colonel :)
It's because there's an !important tag on the colours - in theory a user should be able to over-ride it with another !important tag, but it doesn't work. I have no idea why there should be an !important tag there, though.
I don think this place is really all that good for forums. For sure I would never pay for this, and I know its not too much to ask for free forums, but the lack of an editor, or even consistent basic choices really doesn't compel me to stick it out. If the other features of the admin panel weren't so compelling and the variety of themes to choose from weren't so many I'd bolt in a second.
Final decision is going to be up to our guild but right now I have to say I'm strong against staying with Lefora, they need to develop an editor or something basic, this is just ridiculous trying to locate which color strings go with which text on the screen, and having certain sections not customizable when everything else is, stupid.
Appreciate the help Jack.
thanks for your feedback jbd, we're listening to it here at lefora.
We have plans to offer more theme editing options that would be simple to use. However, this would be a few months away. I understand that CSS is complex, but at the same time, it gives a really wide range of customization that can be down for your forum and hackyour.lefora.com has some really great themes available that you just have to copy and paste the code on to your forum.
Lefora also has a number of advantages over other forum software, such as the ability to embed videos, a rich text editor, anti-spam prevention, an active support forum, constant feature development (we're always adding new features), custom domain name hosting, and more.
