Trouble adding bold or italics to different paragraphs of the same post.

I often paste rather large texts from Internet pages into my posts. I always go via Notepad to remove any text formatting. After pasting in the "clean" text I sometimes wish to add some font style to the new text. If I choose to add italics to a multi-paragraph text I have paste din, it all looks as it should before submitting the post (that is, all the paragraphs are shown in italics). But when I view the submitted post afterwards only the first paragraph is properly shown in italics. The rest is in normal font style. If I then edit the text, choose the remaining paragraphs, add italics to then and re-submit, again only the first of these new paragraphs will be properly shown with italics. I have to do this multiple times, once for each paragraph to end up with the whole text properly formatted. If I, in frustration, try to remove the italics formatting from the first paragraph, this is not possible without actually removing that whole paragraph and re-typing/pasting it in again.

To me it seems like something is wrong with the text editor.
