This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage. For more information about HTTP errors, see Help. I can sign in no bother.. so why is he having trouble?? |
is he going to http://tripreports.takeforum.com/ or some other address? Does he have the correct email address and password for signing in? Can he come here and try explaining more of what's happening (he can reply to this thread as a guest).
I am having a similar problem with my members joining.
What happens is you try to sign in and it mentions an error about cookies being enabled.
One time I can sign in with my email address and the next time I get an error.
Then same goes with user name sign in.
I have created an account for one of my members from england and he just can not get into it.
Same goes for a client who just emailed me... this is what he said...
"Hey Bill,
For some reason the forum will not let me register or log on!
David"
Another from England says...
"I've tried both 'thebiggfella' and thebiggfella4120@yahoo.com with the password and neither are working.
I also had an email from Franco (Ciccio) from Pure-HIT. I'd forwarded on the link to your new site to him. He's also having trouble registering. A software gitch maybe or it could be something to do with our computers though I've never had trouble registering with a site before.
I'll try to log in at work tonight and let you know what happens.
Fingers crossed!
Glynn"
Can you tell me or point me to the correct process when this happens?
Thanks,
Bill

The same thing use to happen on my forum. Nobody ever knew why. Many had problems joining or signing in. I honestly don't know if it's a problem now or not.
billsahli, does the error state that cookies must be enabled or something else? Can they take a screenshot and post it here? (they can upload it to photobucket.com and link to the image).
Also, for anybody having a problem, please post a link to your forum in your post as that will help us investigate.
Thanks Chief!
It was a cookie problem and I rectified it by posting directions on how to go into ONES PC and adjust the cookies under Privacy. Thank you!
HOWEVER,
A new problem. I have just one guy in Italy I think, who is getting a 404 error every time he posts. I then find his stuff in SPAM. Any suggestion on this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Bill Sahli

You will have to unspam his messages for a while, I'm afraid, so that the spam filter learns not to.
Some of our members too are having the same problem.Or if they are logged in,but cannot access their messages, just the lefora dinosaur.,or cross site forgery.

sounds like they're going to spam. You just have to go into your spam manager on the admin panel and 'mark as not spam' to train the spam detector. After a few days of this, you should be all good.
Sorry for the 404 error, that's something we're working on to fix.
same problem here with logging in but member now can log in, he jsut cant go anywhere. when he does he gets the log in message up in top right. (he looses login status whenever he moves through forum)

That sounds familiar from a older post to Support. If I remember it had something to do with Browser configuration or version. So have them relay OS and Browser versions plus any addons. Might recommend they try a different Browser if they are running a old version like IE 6.
Ok... this is what is happening specifically... a message from my member...
Bill,
below the error message I get everytime I try to post.
I did also see that after I tried posting this line appeared under the latest existing post: "hidden post - the post was flagged as spam".
So, it looks like somehow all my posts are qualified as spam, even when they contain no links or whatsoever. Looks like some general settings of your board need adjustment maybe.
Regards,
Franco

I dont want to loose this member or anyone else because of this problem. Please resolve this!
Thanks,

Bill, can you find out what browser/os your member is using?
if the posts are getting marked as spam, the admin just needs to mark them as 'not spam' for the first few days of posting, then our system should learn that the person is not a spammer and stop flagging them as spam (and throwing that error). We're working on improving this process for members.
Hi...
I will find out what browser they are using... in the mean time I have another problem with a different member... this is his message to me...
Hi again Bill.
Hope you are well. Just another quick note regarding your new site. As I
mentioned, I can sign in if I accept all cookies and I've uploaded an avatar
(hope you can see it!). However, I can't seem to post anything. Although I'm
logged in, this is the message I get:

Any thoughts on this one?

PS I will continue to train the system...
please have any people that are having issues post here, it will help us understand the problem much quicker.
Ok... thanks for all the help and support.
Here are the two issues. The problems seem to be solved and this is what caused them...
An antiquated browser... the user updated to a current browser and it worked.
A Block At Admin Level - the user was at work and the IT admin somehow blocked the forum
Cookie Monster - Cookies not being fully enabled.
Those were the problems and the fixes.
ALSO what cookie is dropped in this forum. The question so that I dont allow my anti spam to delete it out.
Thanks again!
Hey Guys,
This is my 1st post on this site. I too have a problem with one of my Admins who is from the UK and he can't log-in or even sing up on our forum and i have had a email from another member who also had the same problem ?
What do i need to do ? He is my main Admin for the forum.
Also my Mods are saying they can't control anything like the other forum such as editing words that should not be posted.
This is my site:
http://thediecasthangearpub.eamped.com
I can't delete the above link, made a mistake it should be:
http://thediecasthangarpub.eamped.com
Thanks,
Starman
