New way quoting works
I am not happy about the way Lefora manages quoting. I would prefer, when quoting something said earlier in the thread, each quote to present the time and date, and ideally a link, to the specific post that is being quoted. This makes it easy for people to verify that the quote is genuine and that the poster hasn't changed anything. It just feels more right to do proper referencing.
Also, it's not possible to double quote. If I quote a text that includes another quote the latter is removed. This is inconvenient when you want to reply to something and you want the reader to see the whole discussion that led up to your reply.
Thirdly, when quoting all formatting in the original text is removed. This is a problem when the text included bold and italics. Such formatting should be preserved. In addition, any images are removed, including emoticons.
In addition I would preserve if the quote nickname is not put down to the right of the quote, but at the start of it (together with the time, data and direct link).
Lastly, I've noticed that in the "Recent Post" widget if the post started with a quote the quote is displayed. Ideally only the reply should be displayed. Or at least it should be obvious that it is a quote. The way it is now if I quote something an reply underneath, the "Recent Post" widget will only show the start of what I was quoting and then claim that was written by me when rather the reply (which is not shown) was written by me. It could easily be that I completely disagreed with what I quoted.
That's a lot, but hope this can be adjusted at some time. I think many people coming from other forums will feel that the way Lefora quotes is not just unusual but also suboptimal.
seconded, though a link may be superfluous
thanks for that feedback, you make some very good points. We won't be able to change the way quoting works in the near future, but i've added your suggestions to our feature wishlist so that when we make changes to that area of the site next, we can include these suggestions. We usually try to consider each pain point/problem and see if there is a new innovative way we can solve it, or just implement the traditional system. We also talk to a group of 'Awesome Admins' from time to time to get their feedback on new feature development.
