Advice for new forum owner

#0, by michaelmccarthy, 30 July 2009 07:26 PM

Hi, I just started a new forum for residents of Glanmire in Cork Ireland. To start things off I put in 6 or seven posts. Some included votes but only 4 appear on the forum. How do i know where the missing topics are gone? One of the selling points of this forum was that it said that you can get a number of topics which would be of interest to your audiance. How does this work and where would I get the information. I would appreciate any other advice that more experienced forum owners could offer me. Thanks Mike Mc Carthy

New topics shouldn't disappear. Are you saying you started a new topic and now it's not there?  I see there were 4 topics started (3 of which were polls).  None of the topics appear to haver replies yet.

Hi Chief,

Thanks for responding. I just went int forum and posted another poll. That appeared on forum. I then went and then tried to post another discussion topic but this didn't appear. The topic was asking the people of Glanmire for suggestin in relation to my 5 year old joining some activities in Sept 09. Topic didn't appear when saved.

Do you know anything in relation to getting subject mattet to kickstart forum.

Any ideas or advice would be aprreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Check your spam folder to see if the posts re going there. If so, you'll have to mark them as 'not spam'.

Hi coloneljack,

Where would I find this spam folder?
Do you know if there is a limit to the no of topics I can start? When I try to start a 5th it seems to disappear into a black hole?
Do you know where I would get topics to kickstart this forum?

Thanks
Mike

It's your forum - surely you had an idea of what you were going to discuss before you created your forum?

Spam folder is in Forum Admin > Members > Spam

Thanks so much for mentioning my book, t-cell. I really appreciate it.

Mike, when you say topics to kick start the forum, are you saying that you are looking for ideas for new threads? If so, I would imagine one of the best ones would be the newspapers/news sources in the town. Start new threads dedicated to important news items, for example.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks,

Patrick
