Plagiarism
Does Lefora have any specific rules on plagiarism?
For example, if a member posts a page from an outside source and edits it in such a way that the meaning is changed, does that break any rules at Lefora? I remember in the days of MSN they were quite harsh on Groups that allowed this activity.
I am asking this because I deleted a post by a member for the above reasons and he is complaining I am biased against him, so I told him I would check if it breaks any specific rule by Lefora.
It is your Forum, you set the rules.
I believe Lefora's terms and conditions reflect illegal activity conducted. Plagiarism could be considered illegal since it fails to attribute the original author (copyright issues also exist). That said, Staff at your Forum should follow the guidelines and rules that you post for your Forum. Lefora would not have enough time in each day to monitor all 80K+ Forums registered with them.
Yes I understand that Matt, thanks, but being an old MSN Admin I was under the impression that MSN were wary of being held libel themselves for plagiarised material.
It wasn't so much my concern that attribution wasn't made, but that the article in question had been altered by the poster so that it didn't display the intent of the original author.
If it isn't against Lefora's guidelines I'll address it in another manner on the Forum itself.
I am a new Admin on this Forum and am trying to tidy some things up and have some old MSN hangups. Thanks again for your help.
