Re: Links In A New Window
June 18, 2008 by avbf
Reason is, it's fairly common for links to open in new windows on other sites. The idea is that people retain a link to the original site, yet are also able to look at the new site. When they've finished with the new site, they can simply close the window to return to the original site.
With all links opening in the new window, this isn't so simple: people would have to use their back buttons or enter the address of the original site again. Also, i would've thought Lefora would want people to stay on the forums rather than possibly wander off?

This can waste time for someone who's not aware of what you do and is trying to work out what's going on (like me!).
Also, what about replacement of the url with the Title? That's not used either?
Latest Activity Titles

This is fine except when your topic ends with something like a question or exclamation mark. In this case, for instance, 'Ants?' becomes 'Ants?.'
Could Latest Activity be made savvy to this?
Links In A New Window

Also, when i created the link, i'd initially pasted the url for the link into the editor box, highlighted the url, then pressed the 'Insert/edit link button' to change the name and get it to open in a new window. However though i typed a different Title in, this didn't replace the url i'd pasted originally. The url simply became the link - the Title i'd entered was disregarded.

In any case, my other comments remain valid.
Editors
June 18, 2008 by avbf
The visual editor's not that complex, so wouldn't it make life easier for newbies to have those options available from the start, rather than having to find the link to switch to the visual editor?
Also, the text is a bit smaller on the visual editor. Could it be the same size or larger?
Finally, the visual editor doesn't give the option to upload files or pics or embed videos - this is only on the text editor. For simplicity, shouldn't these features be available on both?
Multiple Forum Login
June 18, 2008 by avbf
If i'm logged in to my forum, then go to another forum, i have to log in again to participate.
Once i do that, it seems i'm logged in for any other forum i visit.
Wouldn't it be simpler to stay logged on for all forums after logging in to your first forum, rather than having to login to 2 forums before that happens?
Re: ADmin POWER!

hi chief
i know you're working on the ban option, and that it's coming up soon, i just want to ad my voice to the request.
i don't have a problem with spam yet, but i can see it will be an issue in the future, so am looking forward to ban options being available.

Well, i didn't need a day or two... That was ridiculously easy!
While it's a link rather than a button it works great all the same - thanks again!

I don't know CSS, but that's ok, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing anything.
I'll look forward to the extra colour options in the future.

I'll give this a try in the next day or two and let you know how i went.
Button to go to website?
April 3, 2008 by avbf
Hi Chief
My forum is related to a website.
Would it be possible to place a button somewhere in the free space around the forum that returns to the site? I use the Juice theme.
If so, can you explain how this would be done - i'm not very html savvy?
Ads
April 2, 2008 by avbf
Hi Chief
As the Google ads are running on sites, i take it there's no way to remove them now, even though they're running in a fairly unbotrusive spot?
You mentioned earlier you were planning to introduce premium hosting at some stage - got any plans for when that might be?
What features do you see that having?
Do you have an idea of how much you'd charge for that?
Re: Theme Colours, Search box appearance & Log Out

ok chief.
* colour themes: i'm looking forward to it!
* search: sounds good!
* logout text: alright, the logout fading into the background is on purpose, and is fine once you know where it is, but won't new users have a problem finding it?

this seems to work pretty well now, thanks chief.
Re: Disallowing Signatures
March 31, 2008 by avbf
ok, but wouldn't, say, the Settings page just need a checkbox or somthing similar saying 'Allow signatures?'
my concern was that sometimes people can overuse signatures, which can make things messy and harder to read. but it depends on the people posting of course.
Disallowing Signatures
March 27, 2008 by avbf
Hi Chief
Would it be possible to have a feature where admins can choose to allow or disallow signatures?

No, usually Camino, sometimes Safari.
Re: editing/posting error
March 15, 2008 by avbf
Oh, i should explain: originally - before the upgrade - i got bullets just by using asterisks ie the forum would replace the asterisks with bullets.
Re: editing/posting error
March 15, 2008 by avbf
Damn, i didn't even get the bullets here! Let me try on my forum and see what happens...
Ok, i did, and i'm getting the same thing now - that is, asterisks but no bullets with the line space after the final asterisk ok.
Re: editing/posting error
March 15, 2008 by avbf
yes, i've got the bulleted points going in Juice, but it leaves out the final line space, even though one appears in the editor, and shows before i submit this example:
* Your account suspended.
* Being banned.
Please report anything you thinks breaks the rules.
I hope this comes across after i post, otherwise i'll include an image if you want it.
Changing Colours in Themes
March 15, 2008 by avbf
Hi Chief
I've just been toying around with changing colours in the Juice theme.
Thing is, once i've saved settings, the option to amend the original choice no longer appears. For example, if i change the background colour then save, if i then want to make a tweak to the background colour the option to choose it is no longer there.
What i have to do is save the Juice theme again, which restores the default colours, then go in and amend the colours again. This is fine if you change just one thing, but if you change multiple things it's a pain.
So would it be possible to retain a memory of the custom colours, so that if you want to amend any, you don't have to go back to step 1 again?
Theme Colours, Search box appearance & Log Out
March 14, 2008 by avbf
Hi Chief
Good to have the new Juice theme, although it'd be even better to have it in a wider choice of colours. This may be something you're already working on.
I know i can change the colours by customizing, but it takes a bit of fiddling around, and i can't seem to find where some of the colours go. Is this a possible bug? The preview not shifting to show the area where the colour change is relevant? Or is it that some colours can't be modified?
While i really like the improvements to the eearch - simple but effective - the search box at the top of the page is greyed out until you enter something there. This is fine for someone familiar with where it is, but for someone new, this might make them overlook it.
Also, the log out text on the top right of screens tends to blend in with at least some colour schemes - the Lefora Support Forum is a good example - so, again, unless you know where it is, you may overlook it because it's not easy to see.
Re: Dates & Search
March 14, 2008 by avbf
hi chief
i see the revised search works on an AND basis so i don't have to type ANDs in. it's simple and really effective!
thanks!
