Re: How Do I Make My Sidebar Wider??

August 27, 2008 by chief

Also, @rokstrsk83rdude, looking at your widgets, you can change the size just by editing the code you paste, for instance, on the playlist widget, there are two places in the code that say width = 450, just change those to 220 and you'll be all set.

That chatbox you use may not have variable sizes, but www.chatango.com does.

Re: How to add a widget to forum's sidebar

August 27, 2008 by chief

hi, it looks like those google widgets are javascript, for security reasons javascript is disabled in widgets, however, flash is supported, and there are millions of flash widgets (as flash is supported on myspace).

Try http://widgetbox.com for flash widgets.

Re: Recently Online?????????

August 27, 2008 by chief

There is no way to change the recently online box or display all ppl currently online. We may add more functionality around this to the 'Members' page in the future.

Re: How Do I Make My Sidebar Wider??

August 27, 2008 by chief

As changing the sidebar size would make it difficult to read the posts in your forum (it's a delicate balence) We recommend using widgets that are less then 250px wide on your sidebar. Most widgets allow you to resize them by altering the code. If there is any widget code that you'd like to see how to resize, please send me an email with the code, 'chief -at- lefora.com'

also, rokstrsk83rdude, it is a bit rude to post a question, then 5min repost saying HELP ME. We are very active on this support forum, and ask that you would respect that questions will get answered in one to two business days (sometimes it's within minutes, and most times within hours, but respect the fact that a reply will take a little longer, but you will get a reply.)

@jason, thanks for suggesting highlighting the quote, we'll be doing more here. We'll also look into the line breaks.

@t-cell, we'll be putting the thumbs up/down back in the topics.

Re: Hacking your CSS!

August 27, 2008 by chief

@sparkz56 to make your 'start a topic' black, add this CSS: #start_conversation {font-color: #000000;}

You don't need firefox w/ firebug to do this, you can 'View Source' in IE to see our CSS settings, however, Firefox with Firebug gives you a lot of information about your forum and allows you to test changes live on the page without having to save and reload.

Re: is there a way to have my posts show up in the thread as newest to oldest

August 27, 2008 by chief

You cannot control post order, however, we're currently working on new themes which support pagination, so your members can just jump to the last page.

Re: how do i fix my domain

August 27, 2008 by chief

@guest, to set up warhammerfantasy.com, just read this post: http://support.lefora.com/2008/04/19/free-custom-domain-name-giveaway/

@pspbackup, what domain provider are you using so that we can help you?

Re: 15 mins to edit removable?

August 27, 2008 by chief

In order to preserver history of a discussion, we don't allow members to edit their own posts after the 15min window. We may add more options here for members to make updates to their posts, but that's not something we'll be working on for a few months.

Re: Warnings on Members

August 27, 2008 by chief

To send a warning to a member, we recommend sending a PM to the member in question and point out any inappropriate behavior they have taken (and link to the post in question by copying the URL from the permalink on the post.)

Let them know you will remove them from the forum if their behavior doesn't improve.

Re: Locked Forum??

August 27, 2008 by chief

You can turn a forum private, so that members can still post, but there is no way to 'lock' people out temporarily. If you're worried about spam, we automatically catch that.

Re: Links bug

August 27, 2008 by chief

Hi jason, the 'open links in a new window' although displayed on the Standard Editor is currently disabled, sorry about that. We filter out some html, including html to open links in a new window. We may change that in the future.

Re: ranks on a hosted site

August 27, 2008 by chief

We'll be working on just that later this year, thanks for the request jason.

How do I add a background image or change the background color of my forum?

August 25, 2008 by chief

First, read this thread:
http://support.lefora.com/2008/06/19/hacking-your-css/page1/

For a black background:
#page {background-color: #000000;}

For a white background:
#page {background-color: #FFFFFF;}

For any color in between, just get the HEX value from this site:
http://www.colorpicker.com/

For a background image, upload your image to a site like photoshack.com, then use:
#page {background-image: http://your-image-url-here.com/filename.jpg;}

Re: mod only forum?

August 25, 2008 by chief

yes, just start a new lefora forum, like "myforum-mods" and make the forum private. Then invite your mods/admins into the forum and only they will have access to it.

Re: Deleted post; e-mail link still active

August 25, 2008 by chief

as that shouldn't happen (doesn't matter if you type the URL or click it via an email) could you please forward me the email and include a copy of the topic you deleted.  my email is 'chief -at- lefora.com'

Re: Hacking your CSS!

August 25, 2008 by chief

luc1f3r, if you follow the steps at the top of the topic, is there a place where something is not working?

Re: Aug 21st - Sneak Preview some upcoming changes...

August 25, 2008 by chief

What I'm really dying to know is when I'll be able to apply my own Google ads -  especially to the original topic and view marker as you've started doing here... Once I have access to that, things will really start clicking for me. Thanks, ~ Jason

-jasonrenshaw

Jason, if you would like to talk about running our own ads, which is a premium service we'll be offering for a monthly fee in the future, please send me an email at 'chief -at- lefora.com'

Re: deleted threads still appear on forum

August 25, 2008 by chief

thanks, and where are you seeing it? If it's on the sidebar widgets, they take some time to clear out, so even if there is a no new posts, after a few hours, it should disappear.

Re: How do I add links to other sites on my sidebar?

August 22, 2008 by chief

there's no way to arrange the data in the widget, you'll have to rearrange them.

Re: Hacking your CSS!

August 22, 2008 by chief

we're changing around the themes to highlight posts in a different way, this will be available over the next few weeks.

Re: how do i fix my domain

August 22, 2008 by chief

For your domain, pspbackup.net, it was purchased from a domain company, like a godaddy.com or something. You will need to adjust your settings on that domain service provider to say that pspbackup.net should be redirected to www.pspbackup.net.

Re: I cannot log into my forum

August 22, 2008 by chief

This is an issue on IE (Internet Explorer) that was recently brought to our attention. It's a security setting issue with IE, it will work in Firefox.

We're looking into a solution for IE.

Re: How do I embed my forum on another website?

August 22, 2008 by chief

It seems that sometimes IE prevents a forum within an iframe from setting a 'cookie' on your computer.  However, this is needed to log you into lefora.  We're looking to a word around, in the meantime, Firefox works and you may be able to adjust this via your IE security settings.

Aug 21st - Sneak Preview some upcoming changes...

August 21, 2008 by chief

Have you noticed a different look and feel on support?

We've been working on some big changes to lefora and have been beta testing with other forums for the past few weeks.  We're now pushing these changes live to support.lefora.com and would love to hear your feedback.  These will be available for your forum in the near future.

What's changing?
  • Pages load must faster.  We're not using as much javascript so that pages load faster.  What that means is we've given up on some of the flashy items, like inline posting, so that your pages load faster.
  • Flat vs. Threaded.  After speaking to a lot of our larger forums, it became clear that although threading is a nice feature, it makes it very difficult to follow new replies in long conversations, it also restricted us from allowing pagination, because paging doesn't work well in threaded topics.  So we've opted to focus just on flat topics for the time being.  We may come back to threaded replies in the future, but the feedback has been to go flat.
  • Quoting - since we're moving to flat topics, quoting is important, we'll be improving this view over the next few weeks.  A good way to comment directly to a person without 'quoting' them is just to type @their_username when you start your post
  • Pagination - You can now page through your topics.  This is really helpful for those topics that were 100s of posts deep.
    • Note, each topic shows the pages at the top and bottom of a topic.  We'll be exposing this in the categories view in the near future.
  • Locking Threads - Admins & Mods will be able to lock threads so that no more replies can take place.
  • A View Marker for where you left off.  You'll now see a big 'View Marker' when your return to a topic, indicating the last post you read.  This 'View Marker' will contain an ad, which we're hoping acts as an eye-catcher for you to quickly find where you last left off.
  • Highlighted Tabs - Tabs will be highlighted depending if you're looking at the 'headlines' page, vs. a forum topic, vs. the members page.
  • Admin Actions - Now all the post-level admin actions, from moving a topic, to making it sticky, to deleting it, are in one convenient place on the 'Admin Actions' drop down that appears on each post (to admins and mods only of course)

We want to hear your feedback, please post it in this topic.

When will you see these changes in your forum?
Forums will have the option of 'upgrading' to these new views starting sometime over the next few weeks.  You'll be able to select it as a new 'theme' in your admin panel.

Re: Reply Box Spell Checker?

August 20, 2008 by chief

The google toolbar also provides a free spell checker that will work on lefora posts. Just install the toolbar, then when you're posting, hit the spell check icon on the toolbar, and your misspelled words will be highlighted.

Re: Would like to see post count and location under members Avatar.

August 20, 2008 by chief

Thanks mattb4, this is something we will consider while building out the ranking system.

Re: Message Options

August 20, 2008 by chief

Thanks for the feedback, as we're currently busy with a few other features on lefora, modifying the PM system won't happen for sometime. Folders is a bit of an advanced feature, but 'group delete' we will have available at some point.
