I had a problem with Chatango causing FF crashes. It interacts with Adblock Plus in an earlier FF version. I found by disabling Adblock while using the Forum solved the problem or convesly blocking Chatango will do it. I do not think the problem still exists in the newest versions. BTW, I do not block the Forums regular adds since I know that this is how Lefora makes a living and provides the Free Forum.

As I understand it (not a Lefora Support person) the Admins have access to the Admin Panel and the Moderators do not. Thus a Admin can make changes to just about everything for your Forum including Banning members. Both Admin and Mods have the ability to moderate posts from the drop down selection box in every post and the Topic first post box which allows deletion, locking, mark as Spam, Move and edit (if it is their own posting). So one of the big features for a moderator is the personal Edit right beyond 15 mins that is the Forum default.
Hope that helps some.

Sure, you just need to go to the Admin Panel that is accessed in the top black bar. Now go to Members>Members Tab find her name and in the selection box pick Admin. Hope that gets you going.

Only thing else I can think of for your problem, drn, is if there is a connection to the Internet difference between IE and and Firefox. Do you connect through a Proxy? In Preferences in the privacy Tab area do you have accept cookies selected?

Go to Edit my Profile (in top black bar) and select Manage Forums. Find Forum you do not wish to be a member and select the leave Forum under the name of it.

Does the other computer have Flash installed? If not upload will not work. You could upload to a photo hosting site like image shack (above post) and embed. If you are using Firefox you can check to see if Flash is installed with about:plugins in the address bar.

One other thing, Having looked at the embed button in the media editor you need to use the url for the whole picture and not a thumbnail if I recall correctly.
November 28, 2008 by mattb4
You are not really uploading the pictures if they are hosted at photo bucket. Instead you should embed them in the Forum. You will find in the Standard editor (not media editor) an image of a tree on a button. Simply click and fill out the information in the selection box that comes up. You will be able to set size and placement location in your post.
Hope this helps. If not, You may need to give the information that Chief asked for in the start of this Topic.

It may be possible to hide the upload button using the css. I am no expert so it is just a guess. Someone from Lefora would have to chime in. However people could still link to malware elsewhere.
If your Forum users are predominantly Windows and IE based, it would probably be best to have a Category That states as a Title to be cautious of Links and Uploads that have not been vetted by your Staff. You could have as a Sticky in that Category with an explanation of safe Internet use practices and your policy regarding uploads.
In the end, vigilence is necessary. Choose good Moderators and Admins. Good fortune to you.

Trying move command again and make sure that only the category you want the Topic in is checked.
November 22, 2008 by mattb4
You should be able to do that in the Members Tab of your Admin Panel. Besides every members name is a selection box, simply click on the title you wish that member to have.

A couple of things I can think. In Firefox Preferences do you have under the Security Tab the boxes checked for "Tell me if the site is a suspected attack site" and also "Tell me if the site I am visiting is a suspected forgery", if so try unchecking these, leave the "Warn me when sites attempt to add addons" checked and then try to login. Using those features can be handy but they really slow FF down as it checks its DB of bad sites before loading the site. Always have a Hardware Firewall and your Software Firewall active when connected to the net.
One other thing to try is to flush your cache and also your private Data. (bit of pain the last since this means the Auto complete needs repopulating but I had a problem with getting a Website to work- Bloomberg- and that was what fixed it for me).
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chief. I am aware of the features you mention. And I know the "Your continued interest is important to us, please stay on the line (hideous music plays in the background)", response. I am aware of all the work that is being done and I applaud you folks for this.
I will suggest however that your response is lacking. Please do not take offense. But you did not respond in a way that suggested what you might be adding or when in regards to ranks. That is the reason for my suggestion for an easy fix for the moment while you come up with a better fix latter on.

In your Edit your Profile section under the Notification Tab you can choose to get an Email sent anytime some one PM's you.
Hope that helps some.

A thought occured to me while looking at the Member Tab in the Admin Panel. At the moment you can select for any member; Founder, Admin, Moderator and Member status.
Would it be possible to add a couple of more to the list that could act as a form of rank? They would not do anything more than modify the status displayed under User name so it might be fairly easy to implement. As for what they should be called, it could be something universal accross the Forums like Journeyman or Honorable. The Forum Admins would be reqired to set this vs number of posts doing it automatically but it would be nice way to recognize Forum regulars.

Under the Edit Your Profile (Top Bar has Link to this) look at the Signature Area. Check your Signature Block for a blank line at the beggining or anything that might be causing the (---) line to occur. If you where attempting to place a image in there, Lefora does not presently have this available for the Signatures.
Hope that helps.

Lefora Support comes from SanFran, CA. which puts the time there as Pacific Time. You will have to wait until they get back to work this morning. Since I do not know your location I do not know how long that will be for you. I believe they become available at 9AM Pacific Time. Hope that helps for the moment.

When some one inadvertainly has a double Topic, do not try deleting, since they are linked you will lose both. Instead select the move function and you will see a list of every Category the Thread is published to. Simply unselect the extra checkmark where you do not want the Thread to be.
Hope this helps.

There is no way to move individual Posts (Not a Lefora Support person so take it with a grain of salt), You can just move Topics (Admin action drop box in the first post of a topic) It would be a nice feature to have at some point if somone posts to the wrong thread. You just have to request to the poster to repost in the correct area and delete the post that is in the wrong area for now.
Hope that helps.
November 12, 2008 by mattb4
It would depend on what moderation is needed. You should have for every Topic a Admin Actions drop down box that allows you to move, delete, Lock/unlock, sticky Topic, or edit (if the post is yours). Post Admin actions are limited to Delete or Mark as Spam.
If the post violates your Forum guidelines it is usally best to send a PM to the offending Party of why you have moderated it. Hopefully lefora will add a method of hiding a post for a moderator someday so that it can be discussed by the Forums Staff as to disposition of it. Sometimes deletion is not the best moderation.

In the Forum Admin section go to Members>Members tab and there is a selection box for each Member as to Mod status.
Hope that sorts it.

If Firefox seems slow you might enter
about:config in the address bar (you will get a warning that you have to click by about are you sure you know what you are doing) in the filter box enter
IPv6. In the preference name area you should see
network.dns.disableIPv6 right click on it and select
toggle this will change it to true from false. There are several other tweaks that can be done with FF that you might look at:

For the Statisics of Troubleshooting I was able to Vote and see the results with no issues. Using FF 3, Flash9, Java 1.6 and openSUSE 11.

I also would like to see the Rank according to post count ability. Or some way to give a reward besides making moderators of valuable Forum members. Also I agree that a Preview Post would be very welcome thing to have.
Chief did post of new features in the works for Nov-Dec (see here:
http://support.lefora.com/2008/11/06/what-is-in-the-pipeline-for-lefora-in-november-and/page1/ ). I am really looking forward to having the Sub-Categories being added.

I have occasionally seen the view like what you have in your first picture (In Firefox not IE -IE not used by me). I think this happens when the page does not load fully due to a slow connection. Usually a reset causes it to load. For me this is due to having satellite Internet ISP and horrible latency I suspect. Sometimes clearing my Browsers cache helps as well.

I can see it with a black background and green type. Running Firefox 3, Flash 9 and openSUSE 11.
Seems to show up, though for my aging eyes it is difficult to read with that color scheme. Could be the others are running Flash 10, I have read it causes some difficulties.

Paid?!? I wish! Also I appologize if you felt I attacked you personaly. I just pointed out that your post was not likely to produce a good result. Apply it to yourself, if you got a post on your Forum making a similar statement about something that you had decided on, say Feature X, that you must change it and because you won't change, the poster is leaving your Forum. I suspect it would not impress you much.
You are correct it is November. A bit early, but with Thanksgiving around the corner, my thanks for your composed thoughtful response.

Just to get it out of the way, I am not a Lefora Support person. But your conclusion seems overly harsh swithart. There are many features that Lefora employs that are quite beyond what you will find elsewhere. I also have found that if you approach the people that run this endeavor with politeness and a willingness to try things a bit different, they will bend over backwords in their help. They will take fair criticism for what it is worth.
Your first post is not a good start on pushing for your view point or for that matter for anyone else that may have wanted the same feature to be available. I think you need to step back and decide exactly what you want and research what you might get before creating a "Free" Forum.
Good fortune.

Could be the Flash issue. Flash 10 is problematic and if you have no Flash you can not upload. Might check to see what folks are running.
One other thing I will note. If you have problems with an upload, you need to leave the Topic and than comeback to try the upload again. For some reason if a upload stalls it will not allow subsequent tries without doing this.
